Not all mums deserve the title

Warning: Spoilers
This awful woman sounds like the US' answer to the UK's Rose West. What a selfish, money and sex driven woman. When I say money I refer to the fact that apparently she was still living on McCullough's farm after allegedly killing him. Unfortunately cold, selfish mothers like this do exist and I'm sure many can relate to the poor sisters in this episode, even if their situations aren't exactly the same.

I'm glad that for a short time at least the girls had positive male influences in the form of their step dads/uncles.

Crazy story
Calicodreamin5 July 2020
A good documentary on two disappearance cases linked to the same woman, both unsolved. The interviews were relevant, the timeline well established, and good visuals. The story is almost unbelievable.

All of the episodes of this show were sad and frustrating, but this one genuinely made me cry.

Best Episode so far.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is heartbreaking. The mother is pure evil. Shame on the court for giving custody of Colter to his mom Lena's murderer. They should have been able to charge her for Gary's murderer without a body. How much effort was put by Law Enforcement to project Lena or try to find her.

Justice for Gary and Liena

Warning: Spoilers
This episode made my heart hurt. The poor kids never got to have a proper home with the mom constantly bouncing around. The burden the eldest sister had to go through is absolutely heart breaking. I really hope Sandy gets caught for what she has done.

Really enjoyed this episode

Moving - best episode by far
deprofundisss15 June 2023
I thought this was the best episode, even though the mystery is really just what specifically happened to the main victim rather than who did it...but still. Incredibly moving, and although sad, I was really inspired by the two sisters, their strength in standing up to the perpetrator, despite their ties. It did make me cry. It's interesting to me that some people said they scored lower because of being angry that the perpetrator got away with everything. That makes no sense...how is that the fault of the show?? If anything, the show is helping bring to light a horribly unjust and unatoned for crime (two, really). Definitely worth the watch, and better than the higher rated episodes, IMHO.

In this case I don't see mistery. That's obvious who killed and hide, burnt or buried victims. I just don't get why police didn't do everything to find out the truth. It seems very lazy job from them.

One burning question!
ericfield-5354222 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After watching this episode I only have really big question that I can't find the answer to. I've tried. Why the hell is Sandy raising her grandson? Why haven't any of Leihnas sisters fought for custody. If my mother killed my sister I wouldn't just allow her to then raise my nephew. She was held liable in a civil case. That has to mean something. I want to know if the sisters have even tried to fight for him. They believe their mother killed their sister. They believe she killed her ex-husband and they allow her to raise their nephew? It's driving me crazy that I can't find out more about this.

Good episode.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a good episode, but not as good as the first one or the one with the Count who killed his family. I still think they should limit the number of episodes about murder -- there's just so many shows already covering murders.

Watchers take heed! It's ALL about character!
mark-7838326 September 2022
I want anyone that reads this to let this episode be a lesson to you. A person's character is EVERYTHING.

Gary was a fool to ever even contemplate getting involved with this woman because she was already with his brother. If she was with any man, Gary should have known better to not get involved.

A woman who is willing to date one man while living with another is CLEARLY no good. And a bad character is a rotten person. It kills me that people do not understand this.

I had a girlfriend for 7 years and everyone saw us as the perfect couple to learn from about a strong bond. But one day she decides she wants to start fooling around with another guy and lying to me. And he knew all about our relationship.

But they kept cheating and lying to me. I cut ties and left and warned her family that any man who is willing to step into a long-term relationship just because he wants what he wants is NOT a good man. I told them to be careful with that. And I left and never spoke to them again.

If a person's core is rotten, they will have no issues with betraying you or doing worse and ending you.

If a woman or man is willing to leave someone else for you, then they will have no issue leaving you for another later.

Character is EVERYTHING and it hardly ever changes. When you see red flags, take them seriously.

Ignoring red flags and intuition is usually when people get hurt or dead.

Missing Justice
Pequod882 August 2023
One of the strongest episodes of season one. I really felt for the two sisters who shared painful stories of life with a horror of a mother. Bringing murder charges without a body is never easy. A conviction would have been extremely unlikely, so law enforcement's hands are tied. Knowing that a crime and its perpetrator are probable is not the same as convincing a jury beyond a reasonable doubt. Still, there is no statute of limitations on murder, so there is hope for eventual justice, no matter how slim.

I was left curious about the two parcels of land and the wherewithal to buy them. Life insurance on the murdered husband? Also, a search warrant to seek remains or permission from a new owner is an issue that needed more attention. Finally, it is another tragedy that the son of the murdered sister is in the custody of her likely killer. Again, a complex issue driven by the money for an attorney and the ability to raise the child in terms of one's financial situation. A judge likely had very limited options when no charges had been filed against the grandmother.

Kudos to those who stepped up to share what they knew and recalled. Family, friends, police, and the reporter all spoke out when silence would have been the path of least resistance. The editing and attention to the timeline made the crimes easy to follow. I feel for the sisters and wish them healing and happiness.

Highly disturbing episode
anordess11 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I think this was one of the best episodes so far, but the more I think about it, the lass stars I want to give. I'm totally convinced that the mother murdered both Gary and Lena but there are so many open questions. Really nothing pointed to Sandy during the investigations? I mean, in terms of evidence, not a drop of blood anywhere? But what could have been her motive (in case of Gary - she was able to divorce the previous guys, and Chris had the money)? What was Chris' role in all this? Is Lena treated as a missing person still, or what's up with her case? What do the other sisters think?

I also have to say that, in my opinion,it's outrageous that the creators included the name of Lena's son with a photo of him, with his face fully visible. Who knows what was told to that poor boy growing up, and what if he sees this story on Netflix, or gets to know it from one of his schoolmates or whatever.

Could Have Been Better
syedbasilasar9 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A really good episode however they could have added some more details. Included why the sisters or in fact Lena herself were so attached to their mother even though when grown up. A lot of other witnesses have seemed to be cut out from the Final Cut as mentioned by one of the sisters. Could have gone into better detail as mentioned above.

I am baffled on how the court wasn't able to prove her guilty and still let her keep custody of Colter. Absolute crazy! Seems like the justice system is all messed up even with an audio confession (could have been tampered with but still). Just an overall crazy case!

Not sure what's "mysterious" about this episode
nwnz14 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I mean, we all know Sandy killed Lena. It may be "unsolved", but it's certainly not a mystery. The fact that at the end of the episode it's still treated as a disappearance is almost laughable.
