Downbeat, but strong filmmaking
snoozejonc13 May 2022
Tommy deals with the aftermath of the previous episode's events.

This is a very good character focussed episode.

For me, Cillian Murphy's portrayal of an obsessively controlling character and the visuals just about elevate this episode above the previous three. The opening sequence in particular is incredibly harrowing.

The general thread of the plot is starting to increase interest and develop momentum. The political themes surrounding Britain and America flirting with right-wing rhetoric couldn't be more apt for the times we live in.

One significant development towards the end of the episode is intriguing. I cannot go into details without spoiling, but if the main narrative develops the way I think it might possibly go, it might result in a compelling series finale, but it's too early to judge. Natasha O'Keefe is also excellent in all her scenes.

For me it's an 8.5/10 but I round upwards.

Sleepwalking to the finish
lewiswalters9521 March 2022
I love this show, and I'm all for slow burners, but something is definitely missing this series. Dragged out scenes and characters feeling sorry for themselves.

I feel like Helen McCrory's untimely death has played a big part on how this series has ended up, which is sad. It almost seems like the show feels guilty for going on without her.

Hopefully we'll have a big finish, but this feels destined to be the shows weakest season.

The End Is Near
eoinpgeary20 March 2022
So this episode is definitely the best of the season so far, it greatly shows how Tommy is dealing with the most recent loss in his life. It also feels like more of a season 3/4 kind of tone to it, the last 2 seasons have been the weakest in my opinion but heading in this track it should finish with 2 very strong episodes. Quite an emotional episode, it also had me cringing at a moment but I think that was the point.

The episode of course is not perfect, there were a few unnecessary scenes in my opinion, Arthur is absolutely wrecking my head, his character is gone to the dogs. After the "intervention" in the last episode I expected a lot of him but no, same old bs as usual with him.

"I am not a devil, but a mere mortal man" great quote.

Okay episode
Funkeysnow21 March 2022
I think this was the worst episode in a meh season. It's so meh and lacks a lot of Peaky Blinders spirit that made the show popular among its fans. Tommy doesn't have to be happy and badass all the time but there's way too much introspective and melodramatic scenes. Like we get it. Tommy is depressed and Arthur is an addict. Can we move on to the plot?

The actual plot is taking a backseat to these soap opera scenes. 2 episodes left and most audiences don't even know the goal of this season. Is it the Boston business? Facism? Or Tommy vs Micheal part 2? A lot of plot devices used in a really good season 5 seems to be thrown out the window in season 6. Now they're hinting on a Nazi Germany episode that seems to be happening way too late into the season

And let's not forget the elephant in the room. Where is Finn???

Ruby Princess of Shelbys died so you have a way to get a thief into the series and say Tommys son? Is this a novel series or something?

Just what we've been waiting for
lukerandall20 March 2022
This episode was perfect, from start to finish!

The acting was phenomenal as per usual and the story is starting to kick off!

Just struggling to see how they are going to squeeze everything into the last few episodes, but I've got faith!

Praying it finishes with a bang.

Warning: Spoilers
Slower episode again but that ending makes up for the episode. A lot of conversations & quotes paralleled to earlier seasons which all makes sense.

Extremely scared for tommy when he has been told he has a year possibly 18 months left. I'm intrigued how the show will end. What is alfie's final act? Will michael get his revenge? Will jack get what he wants? Will mosley become PM and marry? So many things to unfold in the final two eps. Bring it on!

Warning: Spoilers
Deep down, we all knew that the end was near for Tom, nevertheless, its still heartbreaking to hear it. This was easily the most emotional episode in the shows history and probably one of the most gut-wrenching television episodes i've ever seen.

It feels like now they have elegantly set the stage for the final two hours where Tommy must defeat all of his last enemies, Michael, Gina and Mosely, and then succumb to his final foe, accept his fate and rest. I have faith that they can pull it off but it wont be easy. The Bleak Midwinter is here.

Now things are getting dark!!
jarikok20 March 2022
This episode was as dark as it gets, and it was done amazingly. Absolutely one of the best episodes of tv I've seen in a long time. The music in the episode was beautiful and the ending has huge implications for the remaining 2 episodes.

Excellent

Warning: Spoilers
I don't write reviews often, or give concrete ratings. I checked IMDb after watching the episode, to look at what I assumed would be an extremely high rated episode, one of the most moving and most important yet in the series. The 8.1 rating shocked me. Sapphire was moving, powerful, and upsetting. Between the montage, the talk with Arthur, and Black Velvet Band, this chapter lovingly adds to the lore of the Peaky Blinders and furthered the story to its conclusion in a meaningful and highly effective way.

Another glacial episode
turneyyyt21 March 2022
Very well acted (especially from Tommy and Lizzie) and the cinematography was gorgeous in two scenes in particular: when Arthur was stumbling down the alley and when Tommy was driving to meet the gypsies. Also, I think the twist at the end will really shake up Tommy's motivations and principles. Despite the positives, the episode was yet another poorly paced addition to season 6. Every episode has suffered with pacing since the premiere and I think this episode suffered the most. Some scenes seemed to drag on for twice as long than they should have (particularly Arthur and Tommy's conversation) and Tommy's dealings with the fascists continue to feel more like a B plot to his family drama. Oswald Mosley has been entirely neutered as a character and has been replaced by the less interesting Diana. Meanwhile, it seems unlikely that interesting characters like Michael, Alfie Solomons and Hayden Stagg will get much time to do anything in the last two episodes. Also, Esme's reaction to Tommy's actions seemed strangely blasé. I genuinely do not know how they will end the show in a satisfying manner with only two episodes left. While the dialogue has been as great as ever, the writing for this season's narrative arc really must have suffered from Helen McRory's death. It is moving at a snail's pace and it feels as if the season has barely started, even with only two episodes left. I will definitely be interested in seeing if they will be able to pull off a conclusive ending but at this point, I can't say I'm that optimistic.

The show continues to get darker and more emotional as the show wraps up.
madelynmcfly-2027430 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The show continues to get darker and more emotional as the show wraps up. I think this was a great episode when it comes to showing just how Tommy can't exactly... Be a character with happiness. I legitimately feel bad for him in this show, as losing a child is such a terrible tragedy that I can't even imagine to know how that feels. However... I feel like this season continues to set up new plotlines that I have no clue how it'll resolve soon. I know the film that is in production will have to have some loose ends to tie but... Tommy has a long lost son! Ada is dealing with facsim! +Freddie being Jewish doesn't suppose me, but I'll imagine they added that in for thematic reasons.) Tommy has a contagious disease! Now, this episode had some great aspects, like that scene between Arthur and Tommy in his cellar, or the montage while 'Blackbird' was sung. I, personally though, feel like Esme is slightly out of character. Like, I get that she's not happy about working with Tommy, but would she really be that demanding of gold? Especially with lives on the line, considering she's a mother of 9-ish? I know her services may have come at a price, but I always interpreted her as a character who wanted to be wild and free, and wasn't tied down to materials. I dunno, maybe I'm overthinking, but Esme was one of my favorite characters, a good change of pace from the rest of the cast... Um, also, Finn has had absolutely no screentime in this season, and... At first, the idea of Micheal being a villain was awesome, but he's doing nothing. (Though I honestly don't hate the mustache.) The villains are excellent, and make me hate facsim more, and after I found out Mosley was based on a real person (and played by Sam Clafin, the same guy who played the 'Young Priest' in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games, my god I couldn't recognize him...), I'm now so happy he was never elected as Prime Minister of England... I think the show has slightly dropped in quality, even though the shots are more dynamic and the costumes are gorgeous, I thought I'd add. But yes, the show is definitely different, but I have no clue how they will wrap up the show. An intriguing episode.

Sapphire
Prismark1017 May 2022
Ruby's funeral leads to a melancholy and slower paced episode. Both Tommy and Arthur are in not the right mind and it is about to get worst.

Ruby might have died from TB but Tommy Shelby is convinced that it was dark magic and takes it out on a gypsy camp in the most brutal way.

It leads to question how well Tommy is able to spy for Winston Churchill as he continues to make inroads with Oswald Mosley's inner circle.

Writer Steven Knight highlights how some people are comfortable with fascism today as Diana Mitford casually spouts a story about the treatment of Jews at a dinner party.

It is unfortunate that after such a bright start, the final series had entered a lull. It is not quiet up to its high standards but there is still plenty to play for the Shelbys.

Honestly what is going on...?
hendersonandrew-614511 April 2022
I thought this season would be about Tommy branching into the US, Tommy vs Michael, the fight against facism, and revenge on Billy for informing for Mosley. So far... none of it has happened. Four episodes in and it's just ticking along. Yes Tommy is losing it, which is interesting, but there's only two episodes to go now and still nothing is really happening. Arthur is unbearable like always, Ada has some cool scenes but not enough to majorly influence the plot and don't get me started on Finn. Where the f&(k is Finn!? His big mouth set off last season's finale and now he's just vanished..? Such a great show and they are bottling the last season big time.

The Madking
mertafor21 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show has been so deviated from the point, I don't know what I'm watching anymore. As if writers wanted to build up a new storyline for future seasons and all of a sudden producers decided to end it. Tommy is totally unstable due to his illness yet he's perfectly stable when it's required, right exact moment. Like Walter White's caugh. He's talking about bringing down his enemies' fashism plans by himself, however it seems like he's nothing more than Churchill's spy. I already wrote this two episodes ago, now it's more clear that Walter White ending is coming for Mr. Shelby. Furthermore, I must say that watching Arthur has become a huge pain, such a drag.

Unfortunately this is becoming a very unsatisfying goodbye for one the most iconic shows and character. I guess drama shows, especially era stories shouldn't be more than 4-5 seasons. They've done the same with Mad Men in the past and same thing happening again. It's becoming more and more anti-climactic at the time only two episodes left. It seems history repeats itself, that's all.

Less action and more sentiments
AleksandrBelenko21 March 2022
I am not the one who thinks that season 6 is awful, I don't hate on it. But I don't like the direction of it. I feel fine for the show exploring feeling and thoughts of Shelby, and I am all for political drama about fascists. What I don't like are cheesy dialogues.

With good music and acting, the dialogues are what making the show boring. Maybe more action would help the situation, and those who crave for it and hate S6 are right?

Happy clappers...
RFC56187220 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you're enjoying this show at the moment then more power to you. However there seems to be a lot of happy clappers out there who think this show can do no wrong. I'm not one for bashing shows for the sake of it, i really wanted this season of peaky blinders to be great but the reality is, this season has been utter dross so far.

The stuff with Ruby, i know they'll be people claiming how powerful and emotional it all was. The actual truth being that she was a minor character who we barley seen interact with Tommy, therefore making her sudden death rather uneventful.

All the other stuff with Mosley, Jack Nelson and Diana just completely misses the mark with me. It had real potential to be great however the characters are just way too cartoony and pretentious. Like tone it down a notch eh? We get it, they're the bad guys, but do they have to recite every line like a Scooby-Doo villain?

Besides from that the story just feels disjointed. I'm sure Covid and Polly's actors untimely death has played a massive part in that. It's also just become very boring and predictable in my opinion. A lot of Slow motion walking, tommy lighting a cigarette and having a rather dull 5-10 minute conversation with someone. Rinse and repeat. I hope the next two episodes are a vast improvement but i'll hold my breath.

Slightly better but still not quite there
alkhawammarie20 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There's a lot to unpack with this episode. That first scene with Ruby's Funeral was very well done, you could feel the emotion being emitted through the screen. You could see a glimpse of the old Tommy as he was walking away from the burning carriage as Lizzie begs for him to come back. We got to see Curly and Uncle Charlie again which was a delight, but we still haven't seen Finn aside from his small scene at Aunt Polly's funeral. The fact that they haven't even provided an explanation for his absence is so strange and stupid. It was shocking seeing Tommy murder the woman and three others that placed the curse on his family, but also slightly cool to see him killing again.

Arthur yet again is just off his head on booze and drugs, I can't express just how much I hate this version of Arthur, I get they're trying to add more development to his character but it's not right, we're hardly seeing Arthur at all now and when we do he's just a shell of his former self, such a baffling choice of writing, I absolutely hate it.

The sit down Tommy had with Uncle Jack, Mosley, Captain Swing and Diana was interesting, Diana is pure evil and that story of her watching those Jews was horrible, very good acting on the actress's behalf. Tommy is still working undercover for Churchill but I still have no idea what Tommy's endgame is, will they rewrite history like Once Upon A Time In Hollywood?

A very bizarre moment was the reveal that Mosley is sleeping with Gina, watching Tommy barge in after Mosley leaves Gina's place was great as Tommy is now pulling the strings there. Although I'm unsure if this will have any impact on Michael's relationship with Gina.

The biggest takeaway from this episode was its ending as Tommy is told that he has inoperable Tuberculoma, I'd had a feeling that Tommy was sick way back in season five but hearing it being confirmed is gut punching. It's not a death sentence but there's still a good chance he'll die from it and like the doctor told him, he's probably got a year until he'll be dependent on others as he starts to lose control of his mind. It's not looking great for Tommy at all.

Overall it was still quite a slow episode but better than the first three in my opinion. It still doesn't feel like Peaky Blinders as everyone and everything is still so cut up and separated. There are still so many loose ends to tie up aside from Mosley, Uncle Jack, Gina, Michael, Captain Swing, Arthur, Ada, Lizzie and Tommy himself. There are still more things that need to be resolved from previous seasons like Mcavern and the Billy Boys. I really don't think all of these problems can be resolved in just two episodes but I hope they prove us wrong. Looking forward to next Sunday.

The Butcher's Bill
douglasmcbroom11 June 2022
The music in this episode was incredible right from the beginning. My problems with script issues continue as this final season chases itself down a deep, dark hole.

We have already witnessed the worst half-season in the final season of 'Better Call Saul.' Previously 'Dexter' went out with a dreadfully poor resurrection. Before that 'Ray Donovan' ended with a sub-par movie. So we're are on a very bad course for final season's.

Thus far, Peaky's has lost its spark, as Tommy Shelby has lost his.

Anticlimactic and truly disappointed
zilicivan-7341321 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Yet another TV show where the main actor gets killed off by a stupid inoperable disease because the show makers cannot find a good way to end the show normally so they just opt out for the easy way out. Sooo freaking tired of this, Breaking Bad did it first and now every show tries to do it. I had very high hopes for this show to become a top 5 TV show of all time, but in the end it just falls into the endless category of mediocre uninspiring shows. And the thing is now if they don't make him die from the disease it will be even dumber because than that will mean they follow Breaking Bad step by step because of their incompetence. And we all know the ending will be Tommy being one week or so from dying to the disease and so he will do some brave/courageous stunt to save his family or someone particular because he knows he will die soon anyways. So cringe man. And like wtf is that Duke Shelby guy coming out from nowhere just like a replacement for Ruby like kids are replaceable or something lol, just doesn't make sense.

Life after death and death again ?
AvionPrince1628 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So yes pretty emotional that episode with the death of Shelby daughter and after that business again . Ada have also some problems with the neighbors . The episode is pretty slow and take time to tell the story . We still have beautiful landscape , interesting shots ( the pan right and left during the rendez-vous to talk about the new world . I found it pretty interesting in that case and make a scene who can be pretty boring to something more alive and dynamic and i enjoyed that kind of shots . And we have also terrible news for Thomy shelby who get infected by his own daughter and have a serious illness . So things get pretty dramatic even more with that news . Im still curious about how they will conclude that TV show and how the peaky blinders will become . Need to see more.

joehesketh9121 March 2022
This is like pulling teeth now. Worst episode yet. Every scene is unnecessarily drawn out, the dialogue is cringey and the storyline is going nowhere. This used to be a good programme but it's become a joke. It's like Sons of Anarchy set in Birmingham in the 30s, except the scripts are probably worse.
