I don't claim to have any ability to create a portrait nor do i have any education or training in that field - so when i disagree with judging on this program it is simply my own personal taste.
In this case i wholeheartedly agree with their decision. The season finale as usual is judged on both a commission assigned individually to the three finalists by the judges for which they are given two weeks, and the portrait they paint of actress Laura Linney at the National Portrait Gallery with a 4 hour sitting.
All three of the commissioned works in my opinion were very good and I would have a hard time choosing between them. But of the three portraits of Laura Linney the one painted by Duncan Shoosmith was by far the best in my opinion both as likeness and as piece of art
On the episode overall it was quite good, having both the commissions and the timed sitting makes for a fairly fast paced episode - about painting..
