Murder sparked by bizarre online posts or obsessions? There’s an app for that.
So says Investigation Discovery’s latest docuseries, Deadly Influence: The Social Media Murders, set for a June premiere on ID and Max. A new trailer (below) for the ID six-parter points to social media posts and communities getting dangerous and destructive as they lead to infamous true-crime cases.
“It can get very toxic, very quickly,” viewers are warned. Talos Films, the creators of ID’s Armie Hammer docuseries House of Hammer, are behind the Deadly Influence series, about the dark underbelly of digital age crimes, whose trails started with a venomous community or social media post.
The six-part series premieres June 3 with an episode about a self-styled Instagram “sex and fitness guru” whose break up with another high-profile influencer culminated in a violent, senseless act.

Criticism is nothing new to Christopher Nolan. The acclaimed director has endured criticism from some critics who have labeled his films as “cold” or lacking in emotional depth. However, the 53-year-old London-born director, who has received Oscar nominations for Best Original Screenplay for both Inception & Memento (co-written with his brother), earned some scorn for his 2014 epic sci-fi flick Interstellar.
In response to criticism that his work is too cerebral and emotionally detached, Nolan seemed to make a bold move with the casting choices he made for Interstellar. In what way?
The narrative of the movie originated from a “very personal place”. He and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, wrote the screenplay together. The former explained why the original Interstellar script by his brother called for Murph to be a boy, but the Dunkirk director chose to make her a girl instead.

Caitlyn Jenner, the transgender Olympic gold medalist, recently expressed her disapproval of what she referred to as the “radical rainbow mafia” and voiced concerns about certain segments of the LGBTQ community.
In an interview with renowned British comedian John Cleese on Gb News, Jenner criticized a small group within the community that she believes wields significant influence through social media to promote what she called “woke ideology.”
Jenner, 74, who transitioned in 2015, has previously spoken out against what she perceives as the more extreme elements within the LGBTQ community. She now contends that the LGBTQ community has been “taken over… by a small group of highly, well, crazy people.”
She argued that the outspoken nature of this group, with its insistence that “trans women are real women,” and its confrontational approach, is detrimental to the broader trans community, and she believes that their tactics are counterproductive and hinder progress.

It’s not a secret that, when a TV viewer is watching a sporting event, be it an NFL game, a soccer match or a March Madness basketball tourney, they will have one eye on the action, and another most likely on their phone.
And the content they are consuming on their phone — if it isn’t group text messages — is most likely going to include content from social creators on Instagram, TikTok, Snap or YouTube.
Paramount Advertising, the division of Paramount Global focusing on ad sales and brand partnerships, thinks it has just the thing to bridge those two screens: A new offering it is calling the CBS Sports Creator Studio.
The studio will pair advertisers with creators, who will create custom content or provide behind the scenes access to CBS Sports events or programs.

The end of "Barry" is nigh, and while we don't know exactly where these characters will end up, we do know that the actors had a major say in it. The very nature of the show intertwines the roles of performer and creator: Bill Hader isn't just the star, he also co-created the series. He's written several "Barry" episodes and directed plenty too (including the entire fourth season), showing off his filmmaking chops in the process.
Hader's experience on both sides of the camera might be why, according to his co-stars, he's generous about letting their perceptions inform their characters. Ahead of the series finale, the "Barry" main cast sat down with the Los Angeles Times for a group interview. Henry Winkler (Gene Cousineau) and Sarah Goldberg (Sally Reed) both described how Hader gave them a voice at the table.

Power‘s lovable psychopath Tommy is expanding his horizons in a new teaser for the spinoff Book IV: Force. But because Tommy is, well, Tommy… those horizons are drenched in blood.
Fans of Starz’s flagship series will remember that Mr. Egan left New York at the end of the show’s six-season run, only to return for an episode of the first spinoff Power Book II: Ghost. In his own show, however, Tommy will put the Big Apple in his rearview for good, settling down in Chicago — despite a character in the trailer above informing him that the Windy...

Marvel Studios released a compelling hype video on Monday containing brief glimpses of their upcoming films to get consumers excited about going to the movies again. Tucked near the tail end of that clip, after Black Window and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was the first bit of footage from one of Marvel’s biggest swings yet: Eternals.
Over the span of a truly jam-packed eight seconds, the footage finally presents audiences’ first glimpses of Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok) as Gilgamesh, and Salma Hayek as Ajak. The clip also featured one more unexpected star, however, and it was a literal one: the sun!

Writers organisation Pen America says studios are setting a bad standard for the rest of the world.
A new report from writers’ organisation and free expression advocate Pen America has accused the Hollywood film industry of “increasingly making decisions about their films…based on an effort to avoid antagonising Chinese officials who control whether their films gain access to the booming Chinese market.”
As a result says the report, titled Made in Hollywood, Censored by Beijing: The US Film Industry and Chinese Government Influence, “appeasing Chinese government investors and gatekeepers has simply become a way of doing business.” And that approach,...

Patina Miller has been cast in a leading role in the upcoming “Power” prequel “Raising Kanan.”
Officially titled “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” the series is a prequel set in the ‘90s during the early years of “Power” character Kanan Stark. Miller will star as Raquel “Raq” Thomas, Kanan’s mother. The character is described as cold, hard, and fierce; a successful and deadly woman taking names in a man’s world. As much as she cares for her son, there are many instances where one wonders if she loves him for who he is, or if she loves him merely as an extension of herself. The middle child of three, Raq also carries the heavy burden as the earner for her two brothers.
Miller most recently starred in the CBS political drama “Madam Secretary.” Her other TV credits include “Mercy Street” and “All My Children.” She has also appeared...
