Warning: Spoilers
This episode had a fantastic ending. Wow...

Father Paul is a great character who keeps getting more interesting each time he speaks. The use of music in Psalms was excellent, and the mysterious eyes are becoming even creepier. The cinematography and use of the camera is great as well. People are seeing things, and getting taken by such things. The episode also progresses in a natural manner, and doesn't feel forced at all. Good job.

Miracles Happen
teiixeiral26 September 2021
The second episode of Midnight Mass continues in the footsteps of the first episode with another solid, slow burn. We get to learn more about these characters and their backstories. The horror elements are organically interspersed within the setting of the island. The AA meeting between Riley and Father was the highlight for me. The acting and writing was top notch. You get the sense that the show is building towards something really crazy, it's just simmering below the surface.

Slow, but intense burn

Just had to write a review after finishing this episode 5 minutes ago. Rileys monologoue while talking to Father Paul is amazingly written and delivered.

Also, the episode sets a great mood for whats about to happen. Can't wait to watch the rest, loving it so far!

This episode is just depressing
harry-3451824 September 2021
Again this episode is very well done and acted but god is it depressing it's giving me haunting of bly manor vibes. The writing is very good and a new mystery is created. And ik it's a small not everyone will care about thing but even on a small island Mike manages to fit in representation 👏👏

An intense, atmospheric second episode.
Sleepin_Dragon12 August 2022
I enjoyed the first episode, but perhaps found it a little bit slow, I can see a definite change in this second episode, I wasn't expecting out and out horror, but I hoped for a few scares, in this second episode, things are starting to crank up.

Some quite wonderful acting, I thought the AA meeting was an incredible, intense scene, incredibly powerful and very sincere, it's perhaps been the best thing about the show.

Is he really a priest?

Great visuals, this was expertly filmed, great visuals, with some wonderful, natural scenery.

8/10.

More build up

Warning: Spoilers
I already hate the church woman. Very evil honestly. I like the choral music choice as well.

The new father definitely creeps me out a little bit I have no idea how he will take on the antagonist role (which I'm guessing to be the case).

The monster(?) is super creepy. Wow. This show is getting more interesting. I can't pick out what it's getting at!!

Seeing things...

Another stunningly crafted episode, one that gets even better along the way with Flanagan's visual style making the hair of the back of your neck stand up. The story gets complex and the addiction is still in full swing.

Black figures
Calicodreamin25 September 2021
While kind of preachy, and lacking in creeps, there were some great moments. The conversations between the characters were deep and provoking. Great acting, interesting storyline, and vividly dark cinematography.

Good drama with some mystery so far, but not a horror fest
85122224 December 2021
Greetings from Lithuania.

First two episodes of "Midnight Mass" were a compelling drama. I like characters, good writing and acting. Directing by Mike Flanagan was good. I'm a fan this directors work, that is why I started to watch this series. And so far I like it. It is not a horror fest by any means, rather it's a drama with some mystery. Also the location were it all takes place is a character of its own.

Will be seeing all episodes for sure, because first two episodes got me hooked.

Great Dolby Atmos Mix
AmplifiedLife15 November 2021
The great use of Dolby Atmos height channels in this episode caught my attention during a casual "checking out" of this show. Not really a horror fan, but now, I'm going to start the show over and pay closer attention to the Atmos mix. Then I'm going to check out this creative team's other work, particularly the director and sound crew.

Netflix - more of this please. Creatives - use the height channels better.

[6.5] The three steps
cjonesas21 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2: too slow burn, some good acting, especially the priest (as always with Hamish Linklater), good photography and filming, too much defiance of logic, a miracle ending, quite shakenly nice in itself, though that someone climbing three steps of stairs is on a whole new level as just merely standing up!

That's something...
prophetroastinc3 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In the previous episode the issue was, something is weird. In this episode we're shown something is weird in several different ways, but there's so much weird stuff happening we have no idea what's what and where. It makes for a genuine horror where you're forced to contend with the unknown and slowly understand what's happening as our characters do.

Could have just gone for a cheap jumpscare, but the idea of a black figure opening it's yellow eyes and slowly standing up to tower over a man in all darkness sits with you. We're now aware that whatever is going on with this island is neither natural nor normal, but we're still not sure what it is.

There are people who are just flat out mean, and the occasional nice guy who's gotten a bum hand at life. Yet through it all we're still treated to a nice little slow burn that sprinkles just enough out that you feel required to come back for more.

Also the Dog scene was heartbreaking, but the way the Sheriff handles it is wonderful. All this man is asking is that someone on this island treat him like a normal human being and listen to him. Him just agreeing that the woman in question is everything Joe says she is, makes it feel like he's not just going to ignored and pushed aside.

Preach Riley
gedikreverdi2 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I think I only care about Riley and the alcoholic guy whose do's was poisoned. Bev is creepy and the rest of town feels distant and uninteresting so far. Something in an abandoned house attacked the man who's selling weed. They keep seeing the same dark figure with a coat an a hat and that's why Riley resembled it of the former priest whom the new one says he's recovering on the mainland.

Riley's speech during AA meeting was really good. And then the next day the father made the paraplegic girl walk.

Getting better
keithbcook7 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I usually read up on the episodes (via wikipedia) so as to get some idea what is happening but I have not done this, this time and so I am intrigued to know how things will pan out.

There are a lot of developments in the second episode which will continues and, hopefully, answer some questions later.

As this focuses on the church and all that garb, when I first saw Leeza in a wheelchair (1st episode), I just knew that she was disabled for a reason and, of course, I was right - the priest forced her to get out of the chair and walk towards him - a 'miracle.

I do not like the very taciturn father and notice he is a very grown up Eliot (ET). He sat at the dinner table nodding and allowing all the others to talk - then he gave his view on Riley and promptly shut up and left the table.

How was your day?
Trey_Trebuchet14 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Boy animals lovers are gonna hate this one.

This was great.

I guess I can see why some think it's sort of preachy, but I'm just unsettled enough and thrown off by the happenings and the actual "religious" characters that I don't feel the same way. There's something wrong with the new Father. Is he really a priest? Did he run from something? How is the wine making all of these miracles and healing powers happen? Hamish Linklater is excellent in the role so far, and I thought his reaction to Riley's monologue in the AA scene was exceptional and underrated.

Riley's monologue was really well written and brought up some good points, things people are always thinking and wondering about, even those who are most devout to God. Gilford is already a standout.

This episode is heavily implying that we may see the horrors of religion as well, which will be very fascinating if done right.

I also thought this episode upped the ante in chills and scares. Flanagan places his scares so perfectly. The scene with Sarah and her mom was probably the creepiest part for me. I will riot if something horrible happens to either of these characters specifically.

And the scene at the potluck was notably upsetting and infuriating. Bev is already one of the most detestable tv characters I've seen in a good while.

I think there's (so far) a great balance of chills as well as character growth and moments, and Flanagan's direction is really good. I loved the one-take intro!

Great stuff. I can't wait to watch more.

Livro Dois: Salmos
foxbrvar12 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Missa da Meia-Noite (2021)

Series

1st Season

Episode Two - Livro Dois: Salmos

But what a wonderful sequence shot on the beach, the wonderful way Flanagan directs things is sensational.

It's been a while since I cried in a series (and even more so in a horror production), but I couldn't control myself during the dog scene and I'm already hoping for the religious fanatic's head on a stake to serve as bait for the fish.

Apparently the priest is healing people, right?

But what will the cost of this be in the future?

This scene of the girl getting up from the wheelchair would have been better if it hadn't appeared in the trailer (I have to stop watching trailers), but it was still very moving.

Episode two of the first season of the Missa da Meia-Noite Miniseries watched on May 12, 2024.

Rating: 10/10.

Investigations and mysteries
AvionPrince1625 October 2021
The investigations on the cats are pretty interesting and we want to know more about who did that. Another dramatic event happened with a dog and we start to investigate about who did this. That is pretty interesting and we want to know more. Its pretty intriguing and we want to know all that happened on the island. The soundtrack is pretty scary.

Art improved by the fact
trokanmariel-1776025 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The discussion, between Riley Flynn and Father Paul, about God's tolerance of evil:

Instead of an analysis and reaction, to the topic of this discussion, I'll go over the sociology of the discussion in abstract terms.

The acceptance of Father Paul, of Riley's disposition as the art of inversion trope isn't the merit. The merit, is the oversight of Riley himself, which is artistic improved by the fact of the episode having featured an overshot behaviour, of the demon.

Side-note: When I saw the death of Pike, and Robert Longstreet's Joe mourning him, in my mind, the two merged together to become "The Man In Black".

S1.E2 - Miracle [9/10]
panagiotis199324 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E2) My Live Reaction / Review for Midnight Mass Season 1 Episode 2 ''Book II: Psalms''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 8/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. The place is full of dead cats? That's so weird, how could this happen? I really like father Paul, he has such a positive and cool attitude. I thought that a show all about a small island would be boring but so far it is pretty good. Did someone poison the dog? What the hell? Could Bev be the one who poisoned the dog? The conversation between father Paul and Riley was pretty good. Riley asks why God allows bad things to happen? The answer is pretty simple, because people have free will from God to do these bad things. If you remove free will we would be robots. The island seems to have mysterious creatures appearing during the night or something, what's going on? That creepy creature attacked that guy? Kinda scary. Leeza can walk? Wow I didn't see that coming. Overall this episode was good, my rating is 9/10.
