Louise and George are a deaf couple both of whom could once hear, happily married and adjusted to their lives until Louise finds out her hearing can be restored with surgery but George's cannot. After the operation, George at first is supportive but when things like the telephone go in and Louise moves into the world of the hearing again, George feels abandoned and jealous. This is a good story about the isolation that deafness brings and what can happen when two deaf people find each other, but one leaves the deaf world and the other cannot. Ellen McCrea (Burstyn) and Richard Long are very effective as the couple who love each other but have to deal with a huge change in their relationship that leaves Long feeling left behind.
