Chicago – You can’t tune into top-40 radio today without hearing a host of new and previous artists all converging on the same fad: digitized dance music. While the club scene’s eating it all up for now, time has proven again and again that real music prevails over fancy studio theatrics. That’s why artists like Adele will have much richer and longer careers than someone like Pitbull who’s in vogue today but might not be tomorrow.
And that’s why Chicago artist Lauren Wolf – who’s been brewing her entire life all the secret ingredients for a lifelong singing career – is rising so swiftly on the Chicago and soon-to-be national music scene. The explosive rock/blues pipes on this upcoming Hard Rock headliner are here to stay. HollywoodChicago.com speaks with Lauren Wolf to understand her back story and success.
Lauren Wolf will headline the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago on Sept.

Chicago – The Original Mother’s in Chicago lit up on July 28, 2011 when soulful rocker Lauren Wolf and her electrifying band held the CD release party for “All My Secrets”. Wolf’s rock/blues sound can be compared to the likes of Janis Joplin, Joss Stone and Heart wrapped into one.
The album was recorded at Capitol Studios with a Grammy-winning producer after Wolf won Chicago’s Road to Fame competition in 2009. Wolf’s band includes Graham Czach (bass), Jesse Nolan (drums/vocals), Patrick Dugan (guitar) and Phil Maniaci (keys/vocals).

Telenovelas rock. They just seem to be so much more soapy and operatic than U.S. serials. Even though I don’t speak much Spanish, I love the over-the-top drama of it all.
That’s why I’m looking forward to seeing Casi Divas, a Mexican film about four women vying to become the next big telenovela star.
Casi Divas is the story of four young women competing for the lead in the movie version of a popular telenovela. The women are from very different backgrounds and each satirizes a stereotype of Mexican society.
Francisca (Maya Zapata) is a shy Indian from Oaxaca.
Ximena (Ana Layevska) is a formerly pudgy rich girl who now is thin but miserable – and really hungry.
Catalina (Diana Garcia) is a troubled factory worker from Ciudad Juárez, where young women disappear with alarming regularity.
Yesenia (Daniela Schmidt) is a flamboyant hairstylist from a poor section of Mexico City.

Playing on about a dozen screens, not in New York or L.A. but Chicago, Seattle, Denver, Tampa, Phoenix, Philadelphia, etc.

Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds is poised to claim the box office crown this weekend, but memories of the Grindhouse failure are still lingering. Is it a coincidence that Robert Rodriguez also has a new movie opening today, albeit one for kids? In limited release we have the Bobcat Goldthwaite dark comedy World's Greatest Dad starring Robin Williams (which is also available on VOD), Oliver Hirschbiegel's Five Minutes of Heaven, and a comedy no one has heard of starring Ben Stiller and Jason Schwartzman called The Marc Pease Experience, that seems to be getting screwed by Paramount. Casi Divas tells the story of four very different women vying in a contest to become the next big telenovela star. It is a story infused with dreams of changing your life and desires for celebrity and success but if you think it is all gloss you will miss the real point of the film. This film manages to do what so many others miss — it manages to tell important stories and be entertaining. Francisca (Maya Zapata) is a poor Indian woman from Oaxaca who deals with race issues in the Mexican culture; Ximena Lizarraga (Ana Layevska) is a rich girl who has remade her body to fit into the culture but is miserable and really, really hungry; Catalina (Diana Garcia) works in the factories of Ciudad Juarez and uses her platform to raise awareness about young girls who continue to go missing in her community; and Yesenia (Daniela Schmidt) is struggling.
