"Normal people"
songod-9500318 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Someone wrote that the "normal people" in this ep were being cast as the bad guys. Well, normal people do not attack others for their race, religion, or sexuality. They live and let live.

Tylenol Headache
featfans22 March 2020
I needed to reach for the Tylenol within the first 10 minutes of this episode, because they were hamnero in the Trans message so relentlessly. Okay, we get it. If I wanted to see a show like this, I'd just tune into the Lifetime Network.

Good episode
babbartanya16 March 2020
The episode correctly told the story from trans point of view. Nicole's influence can be seen in writers room. Hope good writing continues for further episodes.

I guess it's okay if you are a Dreamer fan
xenagabrielle-7739126 May 2020
This show is called SuperGirl and yet we constantly are stuck seeing Dreamer. Dreamer has grown to be a self-conceited,wanna-be superhero. Her and Brainy hog up the screen time on a show that should be about the main character. I did not enjoy this episode.

FINALLY!!!
emilypatchie16 March 2020
It really goes to show how good this show can be when they focus on storyline's that really matter and that have a real impact on people. So good to see Nia getting the screentime/storyline she deserves as well as Kelly and Alex.

Also, Nicole's acting was amazing in the her scene with Melissa towards the end

Great Nia with queerbaiting
reasonstobe21 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I adore Nia, but the writers put in the se episode Kara and William's date. After Kara said no and did not want to do it multiple times. So they showed us our favorite Nia to be able to shove superforced Kara and William pairing in our throats just in purpose. It doesn't work this way, the CW. If you don't respect your viewers and their wishes, you'll get worse and worse, and everyone gonna feel it, from the cast to the number of views. It has been 1,5 million views, now it's barely 600 k. Think about it.

Focusing on the women of the show pays off
vlondon1016 March 2020
Really good episode, I think Nia was wonderful, I was glad to see more of Kelly and Alex but I didn't like that Pulitzer winner Kara Danvers was sidelined for the alleged saint William Dey to write an article regarding transgender issues when she could have done it, the guy is redundant, totally unnecessary, the date between Kara and him was so awkward, the writers need to stop shoving that guy down our throats, he should go back to England and never be seen again

The one where they copy off of Ready Player Two and...
mlorenzen-14 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
....and a PSA on Trans and where they use the word "community" in a single episode to make a new world record! They also copy off Coma at the end.

It's still funny how Nia somehow still has a secret identity when Dreamer described herself exactly like her and even has the same hair and allergies.

TONIGHT IM RATING FOR NIA, KELLY AND ALEX
charlierinland16 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It was wonderful. All the story with the trans community. All the drama, sadness, anger I felt. Thank you Nicole Maines. Thank you. The moments between Kara & Nia I loved it too. I wish we all had superfriends to defend us irl.

For Alex story I feel so devastated because she lost the DEO and is trying to adjust meanwhile bad things happened with the vr and now Jeremiah is dead too? Next episode is gonna be intense.

For Kelly, I love seeing her involved with her work! I love seeing her working with Alex too! I love seeing her personality.

Thank you for bringing such a full of emotions for the lgtb+ community, specially the trans community.

Great episode
mvizsla16 March 2020
This episode, is one of the best of this season. Nia is an amazing character, with amazing powers and with a lovely sense of humour. She has everything a great character needs. But with episodes like this, we can see how she's even more wonderful, we saw not a perfect superhero, we saw a human (half human/half alien) struggling with her inner pain. Ready to risk it all for her people, people who are constantly being victims of this cruel society. She's a great superhero and yes, she's still learning. But that's what makes her so amazing. We need more episodes like this, we need more nia. And the other storyline was good too, finally kelly is getting more scenes, after being reduced to a -two lines maximum- alex love interest, we saw her in action, with alex who's finally getting some action, and finally we are seeing more about "the black mirror season" they promised us, the thing with leviathan is still blurry, like there's four episodes left, and we didn't get to see what are their "evil plans" or their true intentions. Anyways the episode was great thanks to nia storyline. I want more dreamer in the future.

I liked this episode
cmontiel-1456116 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Nia/ Dreamer was excellent in this ep, I love her storyline in this. Alex was great, Kelly amazing as always. Corbin blue is one of my favorite childhoods actor and he did great this ep. But I have to say I MISS LENA. Like alot. I miss her so much in this ep. Kara and Nia had one of the best scenes in s5. Nice ep. Also William and Kara date was the most awkwards things I ever seen. Please stop. They have zero chemestry and Kara looks uncomfortable and she looked like she had a date with the dentist that hate alot. I started to like William, he look nice but not as Kara's love interest. Sorry.

Nia Nal!!
constancelight16 March 2020
This episode reminded me again why I love this show. Finally, we get some storyline with Nia, Alex and Kelly, and more progress on Leviathan. It was great to see Kara interacting with Nia again and Alex revisiting past storylines (like her fear of drowning, her desire to be a mom, and her dad), and Kelly getting more than one line. The show is stronger when the plot is more focused on its female characters. Even Kara's date with bland William wasn't terrible. Though I still do not see any chemistry between the two, nor do I see much use for his character.

Powerful plotlines dealing with overcoming feelings of lost control.
imraardeensg16 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Tonight's episode was incredibly moving and gave Nicole Maines a raw powerful and honest way to talk about actual emotions surrounding a trans violence but couching it in language that really hit home helping others to understand Nia and Yvette's experiences and hopefully opening up some hearts and minds to a truly devistating and inexcusable problem. I cried and felt powerless with her then felt hope as she found the courage to help Yvette fight another day.

The Alex plot also showed a feeling of powerlessness and the beginnings of the temptation to walk away from the world and into a "safe" escape. I cannot wait to see what the coming weeks hold.

Wow! Amazing Episode!
rebeccaj-9002822 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
One of the things I love about this show is the inclusion it always strives to have as a theme. No matter what else is going on, everyone is accepted and loved (unless you're the bad guy). Even then, the good guys believe there is good in everyone so they don't kill. I think the theme of inclusion is solid because, hey, Supergirl, J'ohnn, and Brainy are aliens and there are others sprinkled throughout the show. Alex is a part of the LGBTQ Community. Now we have Dreamer who is Trans and also and a part of the LGBTQ Community along with her roommate, Yvette. I think it's amazing that the writers composed an episode that focused on this Community and the challenges that they face. They need a special kind of Superhero and understanding. And no one knew what Dreamer and her Community was going through... the pain and misunderstanding until this episode. It was important so that the fandom knew her better. And it is painfully clear from the reviews I'm reading here that there is a lot of hate that is still directed at the LGBTQ Community, which is EXACTLY why episodes like this are necessary. How sad that so many of you hold so much hate in your heart. This is still Supergirl with her amazing friends and family... Supergirl the show with its love, optimism, hope, and inclusion for ALL. Why would any of you want anyone to be left out of such a beautiful "Dream".

One of the most exciting episodes of Season 5!
MazeMadnessWriter16 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After struggling with direction and floundering aimlessly for most of this half of season 5, Reality Bytes finally felt like the season we were promised. Season 5 has been a general train-wreck in terms of plot/storyline, but this episode stands out as an absolute gem amongst season 5s general disappointment.

Nicole Maines performance is standout, and not enough credit can be given to her for how utterly believable and heart-wrenching she made such a difficult topic. This story was important to tell and I for one have been left with a lesson learned about being a good trans ally.

This episode had so much quality content. Dansen screen time, insight (finally) into this VR/tech storyline, and Leviathans arc being pushed forward. Kara as ever is the paragon of hope, but interestingly the show allowed her, a close friend of Nias, to have her reality/privilege checked and ended up learning a lesson herself. I think this was powerful; Kara is human too and it really made Nias experience and hurt so much more relevant (for me at least).

Overall this was my second favourite episode of the season (the 100th being my first). I enjoyed Williams role as a friend/bro to Kara, and I think for the show to develop his character this is the correct way to portray him. The ridiculousness of Kara/William as an actual relationship is just not it; their date was so awkward and laughable that I cannot actually take it seriously and so was not even remotely bothered by it. For all the SC stans out there, it may be worth considering that this is being done on purpose. Just something to consider...

This episode showed that the writers CAN do a fantastic job (I think Nicole probably had some influence with this too). I'm left excited for the next!

ONE OF THE BEST EPISODES OF THE SHOW
shipperofships16 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
ONE OF THE BEST EPISODES OF THE SHOW

I loved it! THIS is what this show is supposed to be about! See, how amazing things you can create when you focus on stuff the audience is interested in? We love Nia, we love Kelly, we love Alex and it was SO good and so refreshing to see an ep focused on these characters.

Nicole did such great job and we are all so proud of her. The fact that she helped during the writing process was clear and it showed how important diversity in the writing room is. I hope the showrunners are aware of that and it will be changed in s6.

That last scene... Melissa and Nicole were amazing. They broke my heart and mended it a few times during that scene alone. We need more scenes with just these two. Their friendship is so precious and THIS is the journalist duo we want on the show.

Yvette is such a refreshing character and I wish we could see more of her.

Kelly and Alex finally shared the screen for more than a few seconds so yay! I am very excited for the next ep. One thing that irked me was the fact that Alex had to have a medical lingo explained as if she isn't a whole doctor herself...?

Kara and William... I have no words. LOL They are bros and they should just remain that. There's no chemistry and there's nothing romantic in their interactions. Just stop...

Also, it rubbed me the wrong way how William knew more about the trans community than Kara. Why couldn't Kara educate him? Why couldn't Kara write the article. It just seemed a little bit sexist to me.

I wish every episode of the show was of such high quality. I hope the remaining episodes will be on the same level.

This episode was great but I was confused
sgriff-1150212 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was great but have I missed something? I was a little confused. I thought I had seen ever episode of supergirl up to now but this was the first time I've seen Nia's roommate and then we learn she's trans. Then when she gets attacked Nia said she has to protect her community. When she refers to it as her community does that mean she's trans as well? If so that's the first I've heard about it. I don't think she's ever mentioned it before has she?
