I really like the vibe of this show. It has all the vibes of a John Hughes/rom-com type of film and has Euphoria from HBO vibes too. So far it is quirky, fun, entertaining and with solid acting. To me it is a promising start and I will watch the next few episodes. Can't wait to see how the story progresses and by the way, Anna Kendrick is great. You think she's going to be bad, but she's not and has great chemistry with the cast so far. Fun and promising so far. If I had to complain about something it's that the story is a little rushed, but then again these are 30 min episodes, and we'll have to see how the rest of the season goes. If you like rom-coms, this might be a show to watch for you.

Interesting Concept, Bland Execution

Warning: Spoilers
When I first heard Anna Kendrick talking about the concept of Love Life - one person a season, each episode one relationship - I thought it was genuinely fascinating. The inherent flaw in this narratively I suppose - is that we're in a half hour episode and at the fifteen minute mark they're yet to text... I suppose you know it's not going to be long term one!
Added to that, Kendrick's character is fairly lifeless and quite standard (with an oddly bad wig), so the idea of following her through this journey is not a particularly tantalising one. More than that, the audiobook style narration twinned with her semi-aspirational lifestyle gives it this rather gloomily heteronormative "IT IS YOUR DESTINY TO MARRY" style air that rankles with me. I'll give it a miss - but if further series have more interesting characters it may be worth revisiting as the filmic style is appealing. Imagine, for example, if your lead was Tituss Burgess. Now THAT would be a series. I will say the first episode is also worth a gander if, like me, you're rather taken with Jin Ha (of Devs fame) who turns in another charismatic performance here.

Politically correct, Unicorns in real life.

Warning: Spoilers
Augie is adorable but it's true that no one is like this in teal life, truly not. It's way too politically correct. Just very millennial but in a bland way. It is definitely a show you can watch with your either a granny or children without being embarrassed like a "sex and the city" or any other show. It's very "for all ages" and at the same time "trying hard to be modern". It's more Jane Austen at the end ( sorry spoiler)
Augie Jeong

Warning: Spoilers
Love Life is an anthology series that follows the love life of Darby Carter (Anna Kendrick) through the decade.
Darby lives in New York with her friends. She is a little kooky and is looking for love.
In the first episode. Darby meets Augie Jeong at a karaoke bar. They sing, have sex and fall in love. Although Augie makes her wait several days before texting.
The relationship is not meant to last. Augie needs to move away for a job. It looks like Darby's love life is a series of one night stands.
The first episode comes across as an offbeat Sex and the City. Focusing on different years allows them to make cultural jokes about the era. Augie was a big Obama fan for example and there is reference to the 2012 presidential election.
I found it too much like conventional rom coms with stereotype characters from that genre. It was all a little bland and trite. Anna Kendrick is too appealing to be lonely. The narration by Lesley Manville is interesting and odd. I was thinking why an English voice was needed for the narration.
