Plot A: Ralph's nephew Bentley and niece Lisa come to visit the Evergreen Forest, and Bert, although in his mid to late twenties, falls head over heels for the teenage Lisa, who is the tallest raccoon ever and is almost as human looking as Sophia. I know he's quite a catch, but preferably he'd date someone his own age. Still, he acts like a smitten teenager whenever she appears.
Plot B: Cedric has to make a speech before the Young Aardvarks' Club while Cyril wants to get a deal through JP Gordon (who looks less like JP Morgan and more like one of those kitschy sculptures rich people have for some reason).
Bert's plotline is cute but a bit weird. He's way too old for Lisa, plus she's Ralph's niece which makes it weirder. I love how when he turns on the TV there's a 'Gone with the Wind' type movie on. And the scene where he loudly plays a love song in his room is really funny as well. Len Carlson's comedic performance is superb.
Cedric and Cyril's plotline doesn't relate at all to Bert's, but it's got a very sweet ending.
Like Bentley, Lisa would go on to play a big part in Cyril's development. The aardvark may not like Ralph but he sure has a soft spot for George and his family.
Not the best episode, but intelligently written as always.
PS: How have Ralph and Melissa not discussed the subject of dating with Bert? Or sex? He lives with a married couple. And through subtle hints and suggestive dialogue the show makes no bones about the fact that Ralph and Melissa have sex once in a while. Given that Bert is either a heavy sleeper or easily distracted, he probably doesn't notice very often, although there's a chance he may not wish to.
