After what was quite a cliffhanger in the season one finale, season 2 is off to a great start with another riveting episode. After the events of the last episode we learned that the callings will not stand to be abused and this time we learn that things may be a bit more dire than they seem.
Last season a few too many episodes began back on the fateful flight, a familiar theme by now if a bit tired, yet each time we are shown more of what transpired on the plane. Not only are we introduced to two new characters, but the nightmare of the turbulence makes for a fitting opener for the scene as we return to Michaela's house where we finally find out who shot who. If Jared hadn't been so impatient and jealous of Zeke this whole event could have been avoided, but it turns out satisfactory for almost all concerned.
Another focus on Grace once again who seems to be a genuinely good person, if a bit self-centered and stubborn at times. Meanwhile Cal has grown up a bit and turned into a wunderkind while Olive is in danger of becoming a bratty teenager. Danny makes another appearance and the Stone family learn some potentially grim news. Ben, under new orders from the calling tries to track down the other flight passengers while Michaela assists. We also learn where Zeke has been hiding after he is tracked down by Cal who also bears bad tidings which urges him to make a rash decision.
Saanvi, who just seems to be getting worse and worse following her gunpoint physician ordeal attracts the concern of fellow physicians who observe her panic attacks. She doesn't have any real support and as her job is her life, so she seeks out the advice of a professional counselor who is someone we've seen before. During a session she reveals what has been obvious to most viewers since season 1, yet she presents with a very closed manner and the counselor suggests that Saanvi isn't being open or honest enough for therapy to happen. Not being what she wants to hear, she seems more agreeable which may be a bad choice here. Saanvi may very well be the loneliest person in the world.
With a new boss in town and things being sketchy with Jared, Michaela runs into a dead end at the station. So she, and Ben try to make sense of his latest calling which leads them on the hunt for two missing passengers. Not all the passengers have had as easy a time as the Stone family, many who have been confused and terrified by their callings, some of whom are close to the end of their rope. In a race against time Mick and Ben with an assist via Zeke track down the missing passengers who have mistaken the callings and end up making a very timely discovery. Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished as this attracts the attention of Mick's new boss who is all to eager to learn how things transpired. Will the new chief end up being a friend or foe?
Overall a very solid opener to what has established itself to be a very decent show 9/10.
