[8.5] The lazy horses!
cjonesas10 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
At last, a much better episode with actual storyline and realistic story-telling. The production value, VFX and score remain great and for the first time in two episodes, it's developing properly, thanks to the previous ones and a much better flow and direction. The shooting scenes in the park were heartbreaking and ultra-emotional, and the fight bore much creativity with both the protagonist and antagonist doing a very good job. She's usually reserved and the scene where she was thrown into the water and her screaming in genuine surprise was one of the funniest scenes of the episode.

One of the best voices of the series is gone now. I'm sad cause I know they cannot replace her and whenever she was singing, one of the rainbow rays was always strongly aimed to my heart. RIP.

Missing Joss's Direction
davidson-3428 April 2021
The story telling and production values remain excellent. My one concern is an occassional lack of cohesion between the writing and acting now that Whedon isn't directing. One of Joss's main gifts has always been insuring that actors understand the intended nuances and chemistry within their dialogue. That was sometimes missing in this episode, with the actors effectively talking past one another.

Well! THAT was interesting!

Excellent episode! Much like GoT, you never know who is going to get off'd in this outing! Starting to enjoy the characters more each week.

Though the HEAVY Cockney accents muttered in hushed tones are driving me crazy. I'm forced to watch the series with Closed Caption turned on.

Holy Mary

Warning: Spoilers
That was great. The plan worked tragically but worked. I am loving the ratio between realism and fantasy and also between how it's dark at times and light at others. Great fight scenes and subtle special effects that look so good i thought they were practical at some points, that water fight scene is one of a kind, just incredible. I am loving this. Couldn't expect less from the director of my two favorite Avengers movies, the Original and Ultron. I am glad i watched first two episodes more than once to really soak in the details and it's paying off. Mrs. True is a true badass.

Beautiful, Unique and Powerful Storytelling!
skip-9875630 April 2021
I was deeply moved by this very intense and powerful storyline...This show is in a catagory of its own, utterly unique and tredding new ground...This is not xmen in the 1800's...It is a story of people seeded with incredible abilities that were gifted from another realm of existance..Love the lead actress who is doing a stellar job in her fight scenes! The ones in this episode, especially those with the giant, were stunning and breath taking to say the least... this show lets imagination run wild and is refreshing and wonderful to behold in todays world of copycat shows, this one is a gem.

The last two scenes were very emotional
Fargomoviecritic1 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show is somehow related to how people that are different are feared. The characters and how they were touched is interesting.

The last two scenes were intense with so much joy in the park with the violence at the end of the scene. Only to be hit again with hope during the beginning of the last scene. Wow! Annie shows up and illuminates the courtyard to reveal all the touched people who have come to seek refuge at the orphanage. The extreme sadness of the death of Mary to the ultimate high of seeing all the new people was like - Wow! Emotional to say the least! Bravo with the writing of those last two scenes and how our emotions were touched and we were left with a feeling of Hope despite a tragedy. Thank you for this episode.

a song
Kirpianuscus26 April 2021
It was easy to see this series, using as start point the first two episodes, as surrealistic portrait of Victorian period or as feminist manifesto. But this episode change everything. The song of Mary , and its so high price , is the axis. But it is result of a dramatic episode of a mother crime, the fight in water, the photos of the victims of organization. A series with huge potential of seduction and wise use of special effects.

So much feelings
EscapingMRD29 April 2021
It felt so amazing to witness this, as more details revealed here about each character. It felt like each one has been torn an old wound each episode, and they have no choice but to fight it. And so the darkness goes. (Doesn't it always?) I wanted to cry for each of them, for Amalia, for Maladie, for Lucy, and more. At the meantime, I laughed each time, when some of them joked about themselves, or some of them accidentally did something really stupid but funny. But there is also some realistic pain mirrored there in the story, like kindness being bullied and abused, earthly act being mocked and hated. People tried hard to build (or find) hope and light, then lost it horribly. It is hard to enjoyed this only as a sci-fi show but to think more about our world today.

So obvious Joss Whedon's direction is missing
dontpanik29 April 2021
Someday, HBO will learn that just because you can, doesn't mean you freaking have to. The moment the episode started with the gratuitous nudity and violence, I could tell Joss Whedon had left the helm. I really like the characters and plot, but PLEASE bring the direction back to being story focused and not so misogynistic.
