A funny episode.

Ada opens the door to a man with a microphone, it turns out he's looking for the next star housewife to advertise washing up powder, Alf is unimpressed.

How many commercials were made throughout the 60's, 70's and 80's with a man popping up on the doorstep with a camera to chat about soap powders, for decades it was the staple of itv, so it comes as no surprise that Ada

Plenty of funny moments, Alf's beer in the garden, the sabotage, and of course that really funny moment when Hugo's footage is examined.

Jeffrey Gardiner was amusing as the well spoken presenter Hugo, but of course it was Peggy Mount who was the main attraction, seeing poor Ada hoping for fame on the doorstep.

It's a good start to series 2.

7/10.

An episode that could have only been made by ITV at the time.

A slick salesman Hugo persuades Ada to star has a housewife for a soap powder commercial.

Of course Ada is up for this and sees this as a way for a potential career as a screen star. Alf is upset that there is no one to look after the family.

Alf's plan to put a stop to it goes awry. Slick Hugo tells him about the money for starring in adverts and that he could also star in a commercial for beer.

It is the start of the second series. I think the canned laughter had to work overtime. The centrepiece was the final footage that Hugo showed his boss who was distinctly unimpressed.
