Counter Attraction

The cafe has been empty for days. Even the regulars have deserted it. Even Osbert Rigby-Soames is keeping a low profile.

Alf goes to investigate and finds them all at a rival cafe run by Joe Mackenzie. He is a brusque Scotsman.

Alf is shocked to see all the regulars in the cafe. Even Osbert Rigby-Soames. When he sees the young waitress Jeannie, he realises why. She has a lovely warmth dealing with the customers and attractive as well.

Even Alf decides to stay until Ada walks in and drags him out.

However Alf decides there is only one action he can take. Hire Jeannie by paying her more. Only Joe turns up as he loves Jeannie.

It was a nice set up and also liked what happened at the end for the regulars to return. It never dawned on Ada to be nice to her customers.

Business is tough for The Larkins.

Alf and Ada are worried by the lack of business, even Alf's friends have deserted the sinking ship. Osbert goes in search of the reason, and finds everyone enjoying food at Joe's Café, and one reason in particular why everyone is there, Jeannie.

Have they dared sex things up a little bit on the show, is this a first? The show has been largely conservative from the off, it's never been bawdy or smutty, always wholesome family entertainment, and whilst Jeannie isn't provocative or alluring, sex sells.

Quite a good episode, the twist was making Jeannie pretty decent, she was surprisingly nice and down to Earth, she'd have made a good regular addition to the show.

This final series has been pretty good, and this is perhaps one of the better episodes.

7/10.
