Deus Ex Machina, what an oddity this is, surely one of the most divisive episodes of the show.
You need to suspend your disbelief, if you try to take this one too seriously, you'll get very frustrated.
When Spencer says they don't need the cold case squad, they need Indiana Jones, and that is true, Boyd needs to pop on a camouflage set, strap his knife on, and Don a hat the same as Indie's.
I struggle to understand why the cold case squad would have been called in for this remarkable case, surely The Detectorists would have been more useful.
The interest comes from the actual cold case, I'm sure as the story develops, and we get to the second part, that story will develop.
I don't think it's bad, it's watchable, Graham Crowden is fun for example, but on the back of Series 5 and Wren Boys, it's lacking credibility, 6/10. Part 2 is different.
