100 YEARS OF HORROR is a 26-episode TV series made in 1996 and featuring the delightful Christopher Lee as host, his sonorous narration exploring the history of horror cinema in the 20th century. Each themed episode contains plentiful clips from the films mentioned along with brief interview footage seemingly culled from other documentaries as well as TV shows and the like.

DEMONS explores cinematic portrayals of various demons and devils in film, with British horror classic NIGHT OF THE DEMON taking centre stage. This is an episode which features mention of modern horror too, with brief interview snippets from Linnea Quigley discussing NIGHT OF THE DEMONS and John Carpenter talking about his love of Lovecraft, while Roger Corman discusses THE HAUNTED PALACE.

100 Years of Horror: Demons (1996)

*** (out of 4)

Demons are the subject of this episode in Ted Newsome's documentary series. Christopher Lee once again narrates as we see clips from such movies as THE OMEN, HOUSE OF EXORCISM, THE EXORCIST, HAXAN as well as THE HAUNTED PALACE, ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER, SUSPIRIA and CURSE OF THE DEMON.

This episode has more clips than anything else but the interviews here are extremely special as we get a quick bit with Dana Andrews talking about how happy he and the director were of CURSE OF THE DEMON only to discover that the producer shot new scenes and "dumbed" it down. John Carpenter is on hand to share his love of Lovecraft as well as SUSPIRIA. Linnea Quigley shares her memories of shooting NIGHT OF THE DEMON and we get Corman discussing THE HAUNTED PALACE and how it came to be. These interviews will certainly make fans very happy and those unfamiliar with the movies will get plenty of good ideas on what they should try out.
