This is a wistful episode and it has a lovely title, The Woollen Mills of Your Mind, the song title from The Thomas Crown Affair.
Compo gets reminiscences about Marilyn Monroe lonely death and is upset that Nora could go the same way. Foggy who having seen joggers earlier on decides to perk him up by declaring that he can impress Nora Batty by training for the Yorkshire marathon. If Compo was in no fit state to run the marathon he certainly was not after his training session as his knees locked but Ronnie Hazlehurst did manage to sneak in a few strains of Chariots of Fire during the training sequences.
There is great comedy sequence when Foggy takes an old lady's arm to help her across the road gets baffled by the joggers crossing his path and ends up with a jogging youth on his arm.
Jogging is the theme for this episode, we even get to see Howard and Marina out for a late night jog.
The episode ends with Compo singing You'll never walk alone to Nora only to end up with a shower of water for his efforts.
However I found this episode rather middling, it lacked something with oomph. Maybe it was a bit too melancholic.
