Funny, original - a beautiful film.

A rare gem of a film. Beautifully crafted by director Diane Lisa Johnson and superb acting all around, Danielle Taddeie shines as the shy mail room clerk, I was instantly able to identify with. Really terrific storytelling, I was surprised at how involved and drawn in I was in an eighteen minute film. Most feature films fall far short of what this film accomplishes in eighteen minutes. Beautiful music, great writing and expert direction (I felt like I was in the hands of a seasoned filmmaker) make this one of the best short films I have ever seen. I eagerly await the next film from Diane Lisa Johnson - surely a filmmaker to watch.

It is no surprise that "Swimming" has won so many awards. It is a sheer delight to watch over and over as the experience of viewing it never gets old. Diane Lisa Johnson has created a short masterpiece, a blend of vital imagery, stirring human performances and a plot line that many of us can relate to in some way. I wholeheartedly recommend this story to anyone who appreciates a great film that pulls you in with no special effects, no car chases or exploitative violence but just a sweet simple tale that is funny, touching and poignant. It's a film you will care about and I urge more people to see it. If you know of any festivals showing this movie, get out there and see something good.
