Don't count your chickens before they are hatched

Chester Riley's boss at the aircraft company where he works plans to honor Riley's tenth anniversary at the plant by giving him a tribute luncheon. When he and his friend, Gillis, go to check out the board room where the luncheon will be held, Riley sees a memo from the boss which he misinterprets and thinks the boss is giving him a car as an anniversary present. As to be expected hilarity develops and of course Riley ends up saying "What a revoltin development." William Bendix is so bumbling but also so endearing in this role that one cannot help but laughing and sympathizing with the predicaments he gets himself into. Interesting to see Douglass Dumbrille in the role of Riley's boss and plant owner, Cyrus Cunningham. Dumbrille had a long and illustrious career on stage and in the movies (often as a villain) and at the end of his career frequently appeared on television.
