The year began, as they usually do, with so much promise. This was, after all, supposed to be the year that DC came roaring back, with Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the long-awaited The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Marvel had its own big slate. We were to be in a Shangri-La of screen superheroes. Yet in the end, it appeared the comic book movies failed audiences.
Or did they? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, based on comics from the 1980s, is one of the top animated movies of the year. David Fincher’s stylish The Killer is based on a French graphic novel. And of course, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is a towering achievement even beyond the medium of animation.
In other corners, movies based on toys, for the most part, are looked down upon and are considered jokes. But here, too, 2023 surprised us.

The ending of relationships has always been a topic cinema leaned upon, as it offers opportunities for both drama and social commentary regarding human nature. Chiang Chung-chieh presents a 23-minutes short that has this theme as its base, but also functions as a road movie.
“Big Day” is screening at Busan International Short Film Festival
During a sunny afternoon, a middle-aged married couple, Qiu Xia and Wen Lang are talking a walk by the harbor. This however, is not a stroll, as the two of them are having an intense fight, with the woman being quite angry and the man apologetic, although in a somewhat forceful fashion. As the fighting continues, the two stumble upon an old acquaintance who is now a widow, revisit the place where he proposed, a temple, and finally the registration office, where they meet a newly wed couple.

The Monsters of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – Gelatinous Cube, Owlbear, Mimic, and More!
This article is presented by Paramount Pictures.
Bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons from the tabletop to the big screen was no simple task, with hundreds of artists, animators, sculptors, and designers from different studios working in concert to make the film’s beasts, creatures, and curiosities look as ferocious and fantastical as they deserve to.
Den of Geek spoke with Shane Mahan and Lindsay Macgowan, co-owners of special effects studio Legacy Effects, and Todd Vaziri, Compositing Supervisor at Ilm, who gave insight into the practical and digital effects that make Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ monsters and magic look so distinctly D&d.
The Owlbear
Tiefling Druid Doric, played by Sophia Lillis, has the enviable ability to shapeshift into a snowy Owlbear, a hulking monstrosity with razor-sharp talons and a head that turns on a swivel. The team at Ilm obviously had no real-life reference to help them create the Owlbear,...

This article spoils a great joke from "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves." Proceed with caution!
After "Game of Thrones" inspired a wave of fantasy projects seeking to replicate the tone of HBO's dark, gritty, depressingly violent fantasy series, it's almost surprising when we get a new fantasy TV show or film that remembers you can have fun with the genre. This is why the scene where the harfoots sing a little walking song in "The Rings of Power" is so special and heartfelt; why "The Dragon Prince" bringing epic fantasy to young audiences is so important; and why "The Legend of Vox Machina" capturing the chaos and silly energy of tabletop RPG sessions makes for such an enjoyable experience.
This is to say, there were many ways "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" could have failed miserably. It could have been too meta like the "D&d" episode of "Community,...

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves premiered on Friday at SXSW and the early reviews are praising the characters, creatures, action, and even humor. Notably, some of the reviews are even saying that Honor Among Thieves might not just be for fans of the roleplaying game, but has potential to crossover to even those who have never pulled an all-nighter in a dingy, Mountain Dew-soaked basement.
Check out some of the reactions below:

With the rise of the internet culture and positive exposure in shows like Stranger Things, Role-Playing Games have acquired a reputation as a fun hobby that virtually anyone can enjoy. Of course, it wasn’t always this way. There was a time when weekend warriors and wizards were frowned upon by society, with these innocent gamers becoming associated with crime and the occult during the infamous “Satanic Panic” – “Stranger Things 4” touched upon this very thing.
Believing that young gamers are secretly devil worshippers simply because they enjoy getting together to collectively tell fantasy stories about slaying monsters in faraway lands is obviously ridiculous, but old-school Dungeons & Dragons did in fact have plenty of horrific inspirations behind the game. That’s why it makes sense that some sensitive teachers and parents might have been scared off by the manual’s allusions to the horror genre.

Chance the Rapper has filed a lawsuit against his former manager, Pat Corcoran, for allegedly exploiting his position, demanding kickbacks, and damaging the musician’s reputation, The Chicago Tribune reports.
The lawsuit was filed on February 19th in Cook County court in Illinois. Princess Sofia looks good in anything — even a very traditional Swedish outfit.
For son Prince Gabriel’s christening on Friday, Sofia wore a traditional Swedish folk costume complete with an embroidered head cap, striped apron and pilgrim-esque buckled shoes.
The event, which comes almost exactly three months after the little royal‘s August 31 birth, took place at the Drottningholm Royal Palace Chapel in Stockholm.
The 32-year-old mom of two’s choice of the classically Swedish outfit was a fitting one for the occasion: She wore the red and white Folkdräkt — Swedish for folk costume — of Gabriel’s own Duchy, Dalarna.

The 50-year-old Real Housewives of Orange County star was anticipating to battle the Black Friday crowds as she hit the chain store for some early morning doorbusters — the first time she’s ever participated in the annual shopping craze.
Instead, Judge’s Target store in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, was vacant.

It’s been a Big day for Disney’s upcoming remake of The Lion King.
It was only a few hours ago that we learned of Alfre Woodard climbing on board to play Simba’s mother, Sarabi, which was followed in quick succession with the announcement that John Kani would bring Rafiki to life. Of course, they’ll join a star-studded cast that already includes Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones reprising his role as Simba’s father, Mufasa, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen playing meerkat/warthog double act Timon and Pumbaa and last but not least, Chiwetel Ejiofor, who signed on just last week for the part of Scar.
Admittedly, we’re not too sure that The Lion King really needs a remake, but if we’re going to be getting one, this is certainly the type of talent we’d like to see involved, and it only gets better,...

I was crying in a way that I don’t love to cry. A burst of emotions flowing out of me at one simple mention of my son; the tears flowed out of me like a waterfall. And this is not a cry I like to have on camera, it’s a tearful moment where any sane person would think to them self I can’t believe I look this awful crying right now. These are the kinds of thoughts pulsating through my head the last couple of days, and I can’t tend to shake them.

Sturgill Simpson won best country album at the 59th annual Grammy Award for A Sailor’s Guide to Earth. The award was given out before the televised ceremony aired on CBS.
Simpson first broke out in 2014 with his trippy, psych-country Metamodern Sounds in Country Music. Thematically, his attention was equally widespread: The set ruminated on the origins of the universe, the meaning of life, and how to best endure the gloom and doom of the here and now. Last year, with his stunning third LP — his first on a major label and the first he produced on his own — the 37-year-old narrowed his gaze.

The Patriots superfan, 45, attended the game with his wife, Reah Durham, and their two sons, Michael and Brendan, on Sunday. And while the family was seen dressed in matching jerseys and standing on the field before kickoff, they had to leave the history-making game earlier than planned.
“I had to leave the game early because my youngest son wasn’t feeling well,” Wahlberg posted on Instagram alongside a photo of his family standing on the field. “Trust me, I would have loved to be at the stadium – but family first.

26th January 2017 – Just a little over two months remain for the arrival of the Big day. In fact that’s the date when Bollywood would evidence its next holiday release. All major releases from this point on [Dear Zindagi, Kahaani 2 and Befikre] are non-holiday arrivals while Dangal releases on 23rd December, which is a regular Friday. However, 26th January is huge because Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil has been slated to release on this date.
“Each of Hrithik’s last four releases has been on holidays. Mohenjo Daro [Independence Day], Bang Bang [Gandhi Jayanti], Krrish 3 [Diwali] and Agneepath [Republic Day] have all seen him bag some really important dates from the Bollywood calendar. When dad Rakesh Roshan chose 26th January for Kaabil, it was quite apparent that this would make it five in a row for Hrithik. However, what has turned out to be tad disappointing is to see the makers of Raees not just announcing their plans for the same date...
