A young woman (a touching performance by Katherine Cannon) perched on the ledge of a ten story building threatens to jump unless the police can convince her wayward mobster father Nick Redmont (nicely played by H.M. Wynant) to talk to her. Cleaver (a delightfully jolly and robust Ernest Borgnine) and Haven (a solid and likable portrayal by Michael Shannon) go out looking for her dad while Bundy (fine work from John Amos) talks to the girl and stalls for time.
Director Earl Bellamy relates the engrossing story at a steady pace and maintains a serious sensitive tone throughout. Mann Rubin's thoughtful script pulls off a neat twist about halfway through. Moreover, this episode further benefits from sturdy guest contributions from Francine York as cheery nightclub owner Sal, Gloria Manon as the girl's aloof mother Darlene Montoya, and Raymond Singer as a sleazy motel clerk. In addition, the subplot about Bundy having difficulty communicating with his estranged daughter Natalie (an excellent Tracy Reed) provides extra dramatic punch and concludes the show on an uplifting positive note.
