Classic comedy.

Del has struck a deal with Builder Brendan O'Shaughnessy, to fullfil his part he has to supply the Louvre doors, but they come at a hefty £2k, Del convinces Denzil to invest his redundancy money.

Classic, this is an out and out classic, series four has been consistently excellent, and it ends with a classic episode, one which has some of the show's most hilarious scenes

Del's rambling on about louvery (Louvre) doors is hilarious, particularly as he has such a love of the status that French brings, then there's Rodney's fear that he's losing his hair, side splitting. However this ways going to be remembered for Denzil's expensive high five.

It's one of those episodes, that it doesn't matter how many times you watch it, it just never stops being funny.

8/10.

In 35 Seconds You Two Have Married Me, Buried Me and Given Me Widow Skin Trouble.

Another good episode consistent with series 4.

If I had to rank the first four series I would say: 1st -Series 4 2nd - Series 3 3rd - Series 2 4th - Series 1

Whatever way you look at it though this is a good lesson in how TV used to be compared with how it is now. I doubt that OFAH would be successful today since it took a couple of years to really pick up. It would have been cancelled after series 2, if it even made it that far. This would have denied us all the joys of series 3 onward and the later audiences for BBC that would see half the nation tune in.

Reasonably good episode with some memorable moments

Del draws Denzil into a deal involving Brendan O'Shaunessy and some Louvrè doors.

The plot involves another money-making scheme that goes awry with the Del seeking to make amends with a humorous act of desperation. Much of the comedy comes from Del's pronunciation of the word Louvrè and the sight gags in relation to the butterfly, but there is also some decent banter between the Trotters at a variety of locations such as the market and at Mum's gravesite.

What works particularly well is how the involvement of Denzil lays the foundations for what comes in the brilliant Christmas special episode "To Hull and Back".

All actors are on great form as always.

It's a 6.5/10 for me but I round upwards.

As One Door Closes

I can't be as positive about the fourth series of 'Only Fools and Horses' as other reviewers on this site have been. For me it's clear that legendary writer John Sullivan was cobbling things together understandably after the sad death of Leonard Pearce as Granddad and having to bring in/establish the new character of Uncle Albert, with the quality of the show being impacted by this.

It follows a pattern that was in place across many of the episodes from this fourth series for me in the sense that it starts well, it has an interesting enough premise, but it seems to be very slow and there's too many pointless scenes. There's a clever pay off at the end, but it's not as funny as it could have been.

That said, this is a better episode than I remember it being, and one of the better series four outings on the whole. The show is on better footing by this point, the new dynamics have been established, and the 1985 Christmas Special and the subsequent fifth series would be better.
