Game changing episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Let me start by saying I love The West Wing. But this episode never sits well with me. The Presidential election is not going the way of Josh's boy. No matter what they try, they still come into the final stretch some 7 points down. They basically need a miracle. And in this episode, they get one. And without giving too much away, the episode ends with a lot of red being wiped off the maps. Now what happens could in theory happen at any time. But for it to happen at the business end of a Presidential race? That's really stretching things. Now the writers could have played it safe. Introduced an extra marital affair into proceedings. Maybe a substance abuse problem. Or a pro life candidate having a pro choice event in his past. Maybe even a security issue putting the whole country at risk. But they didn't. They even hinted what was coming in previous episodes. And when I say hint. I mean hints about as subtle as a sledgehammer. As always. The episode is well written. Well acted etc. It's just irritating to me.

This Is Wrong

The West Wing, normally, is a well written show. I've enjoyed most of the episodes but this one is just downright terrible. All they had to do is to sit down with someone from an operating nuclear power station for an hour and they could have written a good episode. The amount of wrong information in this episode, I believe, crossed the boundary into irresponsible. Hating on nuclear power this way just made the producer, director, and writers look stupid. I will always be disappointed in this episode.

Unrealistic and Misinformative

While I love The West Wing, this episode is full of misinformation and fearmongering. The incident at the nuclear power station is unrealistic as nuclear plants in the United States have strict and multiple redundancies for safety and operation. The scenario as written wouldn't be possible unless the plant had been ignored by the regulatory commission for decades. Secondly, the handling of the incident would not be anything like its depiction. The entire episode is a disappointment for furthing alarmist viewpoints not rooted in science and fact.
