Another Living Doll Incarnation
Hitchcoc13 July 2017
This actually works pretty well. Jessica Simpson comes to a yuppie house to babysit their strange daughter. The daughter is reclusive and introverted. She lives in a big room with a whole collection of Barbie-like dolls, which stand in a glass case. The little girl scolds the dolls, one in particular. Jessica is a psychology student who tries to get the little girl to calm down, but she only gets more and more upset. When the dolls "escape" she is beside herself. Soon these dolls are all over the house, striking threatening poses, wanting to drive the babysitter away. But there is a secret. I was taken in by this one. Well done.

Keep watching...it gets much better by the end.

I am warning you about "The Collection"...the episode seems pretty cheesy. But hold on and resist the urge to change the channel, as the show has a really neat twist...one that make it worth seeing.

A babysitter (Jessica Simpson) is working in a very strange home with a very strange girl. It seems the child has an unusual doll collection and she insists that if they play with Shelly, they must put her back right away...otherwise Shelly will do bad things. True to her word, Shelly and the other dolls seem to come to life. What IS going on here?!

The animation of the dolls is very cheap and cheesy....not nearly as well done as the evil doll in the great "Trilogy of Terror" episode made decades earlier. So, this is a strike against the show. But the finale...this makes it all worth while and worth seeing.

True to the concept

A typical odd tale from the TZ. Most will notice - and watch- the inclusion of a young and comely Jessica Simpson who is fine as the confused babysitter playing against the hysterical child. Many will not care about the story and just prefer to watch Jessica running up and down the stairs.

"I have to take care of them. I'm like their mon."

Warning: Spoilers
Fans of the original Rod Serling version of 'The Twilight Zone' will remember the 'Living Doll' episode, the one in which Talking Tina gave Telly Savalas fits before doing him in at the conclusion of the story. This one is done in a similar vein, with a twist ending that's comparable to 'The Dummy' episode of the earlier series. I must have seen this program just before I discovered IMDb or I probably would have posted a review of it by now. The ending is somewhat telegraphed with young Danielle Randall (Ashley Edner) setting up the viewer each time she agonizes over play doll Shelly escaping from the display case, and her sitter Miranda (Jessica Simpson) gradually losing her cool over Danielle's obsession with giving her doll a life of her own. The clincher occurs when Danielle states that all of her prior sitters who she made friends with would eventually go away. You may have heard the term 'trophy wife' before, but did you ever hear of a trophy baby sitter?

Predictable but ok story, ruined by bad actors
amandanw-731314 February 2024
This episode COULD have been one of the best episodes of this generation of The Twilight Zone. Instead it's one of the worst, due to the terrible actors. The story, although predictable from the beginning, is interesting. But the bad actors ruin it far more than the predictable ending. The little girl is annoying. I usually like shows about kids, but they had this little girl talking in a squeaky cutesy voice that very quickly got on my nerves. The actor who played the babysitter is more interested in tossing her hair and looking like she thinks she's above this role and shouldn't have to say the lines.
