Hidden Motives
Hitchcoc27 February 2019
There's is a lot going on during this episode. We have demonstrations against genetic engineering. There is a good deal of racism and agism present. Two elderly men, both Jewish and probable Holocaust survivors from the past, are found, sitting in chairs, dead. They have been robbed and the guy who robbed them has been arrested. But he insists he never harmed them. What unfolds are some dangerous things. One is a young student of Sam's who is getting closer to her than she wishes. Also, a case from the past is being reviewed. Throw in a police officer who is filled with racist thoughts and, hence, unhelpful.

Powerful imagery.

This could have been really hard to follow, as there is so much happening, the two bizarre deaths, the unwelcome speaker, racism in the Police and the unwanted advances from one of Sam's students, yet despite so much happening it's cohesive, and very good. There is a very different time here to what's gone before, it's quite slick, and visually they're starting to become more graphic. Andrew Sachs is excellent, I loved his scenes with Burton. Look out for a young Neil Maskell.

It's very good. 8/10
