George Dolenz and Eugene Iglesias

"The Uncourageous" deals with fear and how each man perceives it. George Dolenz guest stars as Juan Amontillo, whose son Felipe (Eugene Iglesias, previously seen in "Don Gringo") is expected to follow in his footsteps as a brave matador. Johnny Yuma is forced to shoot Felipe in self defense, and must remain a captive until a determination is made as to the seriousness of the wound in his right arm. The diagnosis is positive but not for Felipe's fiancée (Maria Val), who prefers to be a wife and mother rather than the widow of a matador, like Felipe's late brother. A surprise attack on the wounded arm during the night forces Juan to brand his son a coward, but after his life is saved from an ambush by Yaqui Indians (Hal Needham again, previously seen in "The Scalp Hunter") he realizes that not only is Felipe no coward, but that he himself was afraid. Yuma sums it up rather nicely: "there are different kinds of courage, and I guess each man has to find his own brand, what he feels is worth being brave for." Remembered at the time as television's Count of Monte Cristo, George Dolenz was the father of actor/director Micky Dolenz, with only four more credits before his untimely death at age 55 in 1963.
