"The Captive of Temblor," as played by Robert Brubaker (later seen in "Berserk"), is how Dr. Sam Bates describes himself, although according to Temblor's Marshal Drown (John Pickard, first of three) he's a prisoner. Johnny Yuma enters after a vicious attack by a puma leaves him with a badly gashed right arm, but fortunately no torn tendons or broken bones. The doctor performs his surgeries from behind bars, and explains how the town keeps him prisoner for putting him through medical school. Yuma is employed by local bigwig Jethro Gain (James Seay), who dreams of a future in which Temblor will become a thriving community once the railroad comes in. Yuma naturally hates to see injustice and finds a way to help the doctor escape, but when a crisis shows itself, their innate humanity rises to the surface to save the day.
