My Feet Are a Bit Damp!
Hitchcoc6 April 2015
Four men are the survivors of a crash on another planet. Perhaps it's Venus. It rains all the time. They have come from earth as colonists. Apparently, they have the opposite problem on earth--no rain at all. They have a kind of GPS and make their ways to a sun dome, a city under a big bubble. Three of the guys can't handle the incessant rain. They crack up and become food for the plants, a carnivorous part of the landscape. One guy is stronger than the rest but he is dealing with those who don't have his will. In these Bradbury stories, the astronauts are frequently all too human. Their training seems grossly inadequate for the forces they must face. What's really interesting is that these guys don't last even one day. I'm not even sure what the author wanted us to take away from all this.

"No one told us it was gonna be like this."

Warning: Spoilers
This is kind of a dramatic representation of 'be careful what you wish for'. After trudging through a relentless rain for hours on a planet they crashed on, three of four astronauts seeking relief in a welcome Sun Dome capitulate to the elements and their own weakness of body and mind. Their Captain Trask (Marc Singer) failed to convince them to stay the course and make it to the safety that he knew was waiting for them, left by a previous expedition. But the transition from constant rain to never ending sun proves to be almost unbearable to the captain after settling in to his new digs, and with perhaps no hope of rescue. It's ironic sometimes how the things we pursue that we believe will make us happy, eventually turns out to be less than satisfying. I can think of no other rationale for this story, as Bradbury often left you with a feeling that there must be something more once his tale reached its conclusion.

And then what?

Warning: Spoilers
I really wanted to enjoy this episode because I am a fan of Marc Singer. It must have been a real trial to do this episode with the actors soaked throughout the whole thing. Trudging through most of this episode, I was patiently waiting for something interesting to happen at the end. I was not rewarded and it was like - and then what happened? Just another failed Bradbury tale.
