Jeff takes directions from his dead mate!

Warning: Spoilers
Hilarious episode where Jeff under hypnosis gets directions in a German accent to sort out an issue in a nursing home. He gets to punch all the bad guys in a very convincing manner. You will never laugh so much for a one hour British television show. Excellent.

Randall, A Suitable Case For Treatment
Lejink13 February 2023
A fun episode of the wonderful 60's ITC fantasy adventure show starring Jeff Pratt as hangdog P. I. Jeff Randall and Kenneth Cope as his anxious, ghostly ex-partner, the recently deceased Marty Hopkirk.

This episode was in fact co-written by Pratt, obviously a man of many talents as he was also a hit songwriter, penning songs earlier in the decade with the likes of Tommy Steele and Lionel Bart. Even lighter than usual, this entry sees rich and important citizens mysteriously divested of their secret documents and other valuables after receiving a special hypnotic command phoned to them by a dastardly German doctor who moonlights at a respectable clinic for the wealthy, hand-picking his victims from the clientele, according to their status.

His path coincidentally crosses with Jeff's after Jeanie and her in-town sister catch him talking to Marty and believe he's a suitable case for treatment, so they check him into the same hospital where the heavily-accented ("Ve haf ways of making you give us your money!) doctor happens to (mal) practice.

It climaxes humorously with Marty impersonating the voice of he-who-must-be-obeyed ordering a night-shirted Jeff about in best left-right fashion, as he wades into comic fights with the prof's lackeys and saves the day with Jeff's sanity no longer in doubt. It's always fun for me to notice other 60's personalities in the background cast and this time my eye was caught by the very plummy William Mervyn of Mr Rose fame as one of the victims.

You really can't go wrong with any of these episodes, they're all highly entertaining.

Fantastic Episode! Best of the Series!

Warning: Spoilers
Co-written by Mike Pratt, who played Jeff Randall, I couldn't help but note that of the 13 episodes available on DVD, this was without a doubt the funniest one.

Why was that, I wonder? Jeff is put in an institution (called a nursing home here) because he has been heard talking to himself, or more worriedly, to his late partner, Marty.

Turns out the nursing home has its own shenanigans going on.

But the hilarious bit with Jeff under hypnosis in his night shirt and Marty having to give him directions in the German doctor's accent was too funny.

Other episodes were notably distinctively good, but none were as funny as this one.
