I always wanted to play the piano but I lacked the discipline and patience to continue. The only thing I took away from those few lessons was playing the scales. The real Mrs. Jack Klugman (Brett Somers) appears for the first time in the Odd Couple series as Blanche Madison Oscar's ex-Wife. Blanche finds potential husband number TWO ,the wimpy, phlegmatic Roger Doctor (Billy Sands). Short, bespectacled and pudgy in stature, Roger is in the dairy business to the surprise of a concerned Felix Unger (Tony Randall) who feels that Blanche is getting married for all the wrong reasons. Meanwhile an over joyed euphoric Oscar Madison (Jack Klugman) is celebrating the potential end to his alimony payments to Blanche. Oscar will be glad to give his ex away at their private ceremony. The Celebration takes place at the Wee-Kirk Chapel just one mile south of Yonkers Raceway complete with a their complimentary recording narrated by the Minister (Richard Stahl) with music accompaniment by the Minister's 9 year old Daughter Judy. Everything is in place for Blanche and Roger's special day as all the principals are ready for the ceremony to commence. Despite the wedding plans Felix is still questioning their union perturbed and fully distressed. The Minister starts the recording as Judy struggles with Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" on the piano. Blanche insists that little Judy plays what she knows. Blanche walks down the isle to the sounds of piano scales, as the Minister reads the wedding vows and comes to the part, "If anyone objects to these two in holy Matrimony speak now or forever hold your peace." Felix impulsively yells ,"I Object!" which spoils the wedding and puts the wedding temporarily on hold. Later that day Felix finally comes back to Oscar's apartment as Oscar plays the recording and the part where Felix says, "I Object!" over and over again. Oscar asked why he took so long to come home? Felix simply said he wanted to stay for the four O'clock funeral. Great writing by Rick Mittleman and Direction by Bruce Bilson. I just love watching the Odd Couple, especially when Richard Stahl appears as a guest. Billy Sands, Brett Somers and Richard Stahl combined great chemistry. Producer Garry Marshall was so impressed with their comedic timing that he asks them to appear in more episodes of the series.
