"The Prince and the Paupers" marks the first instance where the show began to repeat itself, a retread of the first telecast "Royal Flush," substituting a male prince for a female princess, an added gimmick making him a lookalike for Davy. Oscar Beregi is the villainous Count who must keep the shy Prince from marrying to gain the throne for himself; guess who has to impersonate the lad so he can wed the pretty Wendy (Heather North)? Still unbilled but in a genuine role is Monkey stand-in David Price (a cackling bad guy), while famed LA disc jockey Rodney Bingenheimer doubles Davy from the back. The lone song featured is the third appearance of Michael Nesmith's "Mary, Mary," a great track but just not right for this episode. Broadcast no. 21 (Feb 6 1967), "The Prince and the Paupers" was 25th in production, filmed Dec 15-19 1966.
