Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of Midnight Caller and it's a shame it ran for only three seasons. It deserved at least two more. Anyway, Bank Job is a gripping episode that draws upon themes of the War in Vietnam, Dog Day Afternoon, Deer Hunter and eventually Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at the tragic end.

Jack and Devon also grapple with a veteran news reporter who'll go out of his way, even endangering lives, to get ratings.

Bank Job

Jack goes to the bank to cash a cheque and gets caught up in a bank hold up instead.

Not the bad luck he needed when a local television mogul, Kenneth Miller wanted Jack Killian to move into the lucrative television market.

Now Jack finds having to use his police training to keep the situation calm. Unfortunately one of the robbers suffers from PTSD after his stint in a Prisoner of War camp in Vietnam.

Meanwhile pushy Miller wants to bend the rules to get a television scoop for his station.

An inept police hostage negotiator gives Jack's identity away, so now he becomes a target.

Like a lot of television shows after movies like Platoon. The after effects of Vietnam certainly came back in vogue. Jack tries to get through to one of the baddies who felt abandoned after coming home.

It also has points to make about the media who wants to make the news rather than report it.
