The stakes are high for Magnum on this ocean bound adventure
DVD_Connoisseur4 November 2018
The "Texas Lightning" of the title is a beautiful high stakes card player, Jeannie 'JL' Lowry (played by Julie Sommars). She hires Magnum for protection during a big poker game aboard a luxury yacht.

Jack Hogan is the bad guy, Thompson. You can tell he's a baddie as he's shooting live birds from his super-yacht. And he hangs out with at least a couple of assassins.

A decent caper, Sommars is a delight and the story moves at a brisk pace.

8 out of 10. Good escapist fun.

Sappy but okay.

Warning: Spoilers
Well Magnum help outs a Texan card shark. There is romance, intrigue, and plot devises which keeps the viewer watching. Magnum is stuck on a Island with a pretty girl, which keeps the female girls soap opera fans intertained. Texas Lightning is like a soap opera of Love Island. A soap opera which includes a few bad guys, and the pretty girl who falls for Magnum with a plot twist. Kind of fun to watch but sappy.

Guest starring Julie Sommars

Warning: Spoilers
Julie Sommars guest stars as Jeannie 'JL' Lowry, who is not what she seems at first. The yachting scenes, with poker and all, were quite dramatic, especially one of the poker guys (I think the organizer) is dispatched forever in the still waters.

The helicopter chase scene at the end was quite impressive, with Magnum dispatching the evil one with ease for sure.

Anyway, I'm enjoying catching up on the early seasons of Magnum, P. I., along with Father Brown and Law and Order, as part of daytime television. I'm not fond of the reboot of Magnum, P. I. sorry, so that's not on my list of shows to watch.

James Bond?

A well crafted storyline for TV. It is like a 007 movie. Not a copy just the premise of spies and situations. One of the Best Magnum PI's I've seen. Not corny like some of them.

Don't watch if you're a bird lover!!!!

I love this show dearly and finally in 2021 got the dvds but still watch on TV...I love Julie Sommars and the entire episode EXCEPT for one early scene(not giving away any information about episode)...they show a guy taking out a real pigeon and throwing it up in the air and a man then shooting it!!!!!!!!!! They don't show the pigeons getting hit and knowing how animal friendly this show is, know that no pigeons were killed...but I forgot about the idiot shooter and when I saw the pigeon just loved it then saw the man with the gun and I literally yelled and shut the sound off...I looked away for a few minutes...I'm really surprised the producers and Tom Selleck allowed this scene...
