A Very Underrated Episode
kgraovac18 November 2023
Lucy is told she doesn't deserve a raise until she displays some kind of exemplary achievement; Sheldon Leonard approaches Mooney about filming a TV show in the bank after-hours.

This is another "sleeper" episode that sneaks up on you. I had forgotten how well-written it is. It starts off with what seems a very thin and routine premise - Lucy angling for a raise - but everything builds to a wacky, yet logical conclusion.

The script cleverly makes sure the audience knows exactly WHO Sheldon Leonard is (by rhyming off all his successful TV productions) AND poke fun at the fact that he is not a household name.

This is one of the few times in the series that Mary Jane is included in the scheme AND the follow-through. She fills Vivian's shoes nicely in the big takedown scene near the end. The physical comedy is very well-executed and Mary Jane looks funny standing there with a spacey look on her face while Lucy explains things.

Leonard's speech at the end about creating a new TV series about a kooky redhead was very "meta" before the term even existed.
