Good Episode

For the most part, it's a good episode. However, the moment that makes it very funny is in Judge Krata's office when Burt Mustin leans over to Rob and says of the Judge "He straightened me out!" - it just makes me laugh out loud every time, and I must have seen this episode a dozen or more times, and that moment of Burt Mustin's just kills me everytime.

After Laura lies about her age, Rob finds out they're not legally married in all the states. The biggest goof for me is that Laura's parents knew how young she was when she married Rob! Surely, Millie would have known how young Laura was when they met in the USO.

Oddly, Laura is pretty nasty in this one...which left me confused.

"Very Old Shoes, Very Old Rice" is a continuation of the previous episode of "The Dick Van Dyke Show". In the previous show, Laura confides in Rob that she's been keeping a secret for years...she's lied about her age. However, instead of marrying an older woman, Rob married one two years YOUNGER...meaning that she was under 18 when they married...and their marriage was actually NOT legal! So here in the second episode, they are sneaking off to be married again...making this one legal.

This episode, in my opinion, shows Laura in a very bad light. Despite the lie being Laura's fault, she's pretty snippy with Rob and it's pretty unbecoming. Still, it is a clever episode...I just wish they'd made Laura less unreasonable and difficult to understand. Or like. On the other hand, the episode does feature Burt Mustin...and this character actor is always a treat to see.
