Charles Boyer plays a Latin America republic president in exile who, after the dictator who previously wiped him out is in prison, returns home. He finds his mistress again, who stayed in the republic whilst he was away. He doesn't totally agree with her behaviour during his exile, as you can guess. And our president finds out that many things changed since he went away. Many things changed except the suspicion and treason atmosphere for those who want or search for the power at any cost. Charles Boyer is convincing in this character in search for his past, his lost life which he has already lost, and which he won't find any more. Somewhere compelling story.
