Henry 'Hank' Aaron is this evening's Man of the Week just as the 1974 season with the Atlanta Braves was about to get underway, set to break Babe Ruth's home run record. It would be difficult to find a guest of honor who enjoyed himself more than Hank, always a class act on and off the field. Braves manager and former teammate Eddie Mathews reveals how Hank spent his recent honeymoon, seated in a chair and staring out the window: "somebody had told him that this was going to be the most beautiful night of his life!" Hall of Famer Dizzy Dean, four months before he died, appropriately talks about Babe Ruth hitting a home run for an ailing fan, and how Hank duplicated the feat, searched until dark for that home run ball, autographed it for his young fan, then sold it to him for five dollars. Speaking of little boys, there's a brief appearance from Rodney Allen Rippy , commercial spokesman for the old Jack-in-the-Box franchise, who wants to be just like Hank Aaron when he grows up, except for one thing: "I don't want to be old!" Singers Lynn Anderson and Lou Rawls do welcome bits, while unknown comedians Jackie Kahane and Jeannine Burnier compete with established pros like Joey Bishop, Audrey Meadows, and Norm Crosby. Perennial souse Foster Brooks believes he's there to honor Raquel Welch because Dean said they were roasting somebody "bigger than Ruth." Best of all here is Nipsey Russell, who discusses Hank's boyhood prowess in the cow pastures of Alabama, hitting the ball over the fence for a triple: "he rounded first, he rounded second, and he slid into what he thought was third!"
