One of the worst episodes of ANY show I've ever seen

This episode is not only the worst episode of Dawson's Creek but one of the worst episodes of ANY show that was ever made. I don't even know what they were thinking. Just skip this episode and save yourself 45 minutes you'll never get back if you watch it.

Ignore the other reviews and explore the character development and depth with this episode instead

Warning: Spoilers
Agreed with the other reviews that this episode was different from others, and this was the exact point, to explore the character depth of Joey's development, the complex relationship with her father, and her core attributes of decency and kindness.

The themes are dark, the ambience is sombre (even the title credits were darkened for the theme), and for good reason. Who else but Joey from the cast would have been able to deal with such a circumstance as this the way she did (all of the way from the mugging, the incident at the intersection, transition through to the hospital and interaction with the mugger's family)?

Absolutely spectacular acting by the very few number of characters involved in this episode, especially Katie Holmes, truly deserves recognition. Admittedly, probably one of the best episodes of acting in the series that she performs, in my opinion. The pacing and direction of the episode was shot to perfection, which was the perfect bookend to the prior episode when the snow fell on the final scene of shooting the 'fade out' of Dawson's directing of the film shoot.

One of the worst episodes in the series

I really like Dawson's Creek, although I don't flaunt that in public. Overall, the show ranged from really good teen coming-of-age drama, to entertaining fluff, to the occasional bad episode (mostly the Halloween episodes were terrible). But, this episode is without a doubt the worst. The mugging that happens in the episode is one of the most unrealistic, silly, unbelievable portrayals of crime I've ever seen in a TV show or movie. The writing is absolutely shocking.

If you're binge-watching or rewatching the entire series, skipping this second part (no relation really to the first part/episode) would only enhance your experience.

Worst episode but I get it

This is the weirdest but yet good in a bad way episode. Part of me couldn't stand to watch since who in the world wouldn't call her friends (who are at her beck and call most of the time) to tell them what just happened. Or why didn't Prof. Wilder call her back when he realized she never made it to his place?!

But then the other part of me is like "Hmm, maybe this is a dream". She went back to her dorm or fell asleep w them credit being different at opening. She is clearly looking for a strong male role in her life. I mean she lost Dawson to Jen (she was clearly jealous he didn't lose his v to her), she "gave permission" to Audrey to date her supposedly "love of her life", liking this older professor and her Dad in prison for being well we all know. Then talking to the little girl as if it were what she always needed to hear about her Dad. It was unrealistic for the show but explained her annoyingly beloved character at the time of great change in her life.

Good until the guy got ran over...

And they began chit chatting in the middle of the road?! It probably helped the Joey character understand her father more, and make peace with him, in a way. But was it necessary? First half (guerilla filmmaking) was good. It was season 5's whole arc so far, in a nutshell. And took care of ill handled storylines like Jack's journey into frat hood. I don't know if it was done one purpose to make Joey look good, but Jen is really annoying this season. Pairing her with Dawson was a bad idea. The last time she was, it made her character insufferable. With all her insecurities and indecisions, even after she broke up with him. I like Audrey and Pacey together, but it was clear from the start, they weren't meant to last. Downtown crossing missed the spot big time. Like I said, it was too chatty and « Joey centric ». Just like the show is lately. It brought Mercedes McNab in, but either way you put it, it's not a good episode. And is easy to skip or overlook. And the new soundtrack don't give the old one justice.
