Reverend Candy : [incovenient visitor] Hello, Primrose.
[wedding ceremony arrangements with prim society matron Mrs Arkwright]
Primrose : Hello, Mr Candy.
Reverend Candy : Um... how... may I help you?
Primrose : I was wondering if you would listen to a poem?
Reverend Candy : Ah, I'm afraid we're a little bit busy at the moment, but...
Primrose : [quoting Elizabeth Barrett Browning] Love me sweet with all thou art, feeling, thinking, seeing... Love me in the lightest part, love me in full being.
Reverend Candy : We'll look at it later, Primrose. Uh, good day, Mrs Arkwright. Shall we say tomorrow at, uh, six o'clock?
[she leaves, but he remains flustered by Primrose's presence]
Primrose : Why, Mr Candy, you've gone quite red.
Reverend Candy : I'm not surprised, Primrose. Mrs Arkwright is chairman of the local watch committee.
Primrose : Then we'll give her something to watch.
[her hand brushing playfully against his jacket]
Reverend Candy : [ducks away even as the lady walks off] Don't! Oh... you're making things very difficult. Come on.
[he steers her off]
Primrose : [knowing full well the effect she has on him] Love me sweet with all thou art, feeling, thinking, seeing... Love me in the lightest part, love me in full being.
[he is even more flustered now]

Ma Larkin : [at dining room table] How's the vicar these days?
Primrose : [feigning] How should I know?
Ma Larkin : Because you seem to have become the poor man's shadow these last few weeks.
Primrose : [adamant] I have not.
Ma Larkin : [smiles] I worry about Mr Candy. He looks so thin. He needs fattening up.
Primrose : [brightening up] Do you think so?
Ma Larkin : He needs a good woman to look after him. You know what they say? The way to a man's heart is through his stomach.
[giving Primrose an idea]
