Anonymous 007. Do you actually have a clue of what you are talking about concerning this show? Typical American who can't enjoy something unless it's set in the good 'ol U.S. of A. May I point out that the stories are based on those of H.E. Bates, an English author who set them in the English county of Kent, which is where he lived. The show, for the most part, was filmed in the actual areas in which it is set. It is vastly superior to that crappy American effort that you so adore. The fact that you complain about a character being pregnant and not being family fare just underlines your complete misunderstanding of the stories written by H.E.Bates, which are English stories by an English author - and bawdiness has always been a part of English humour. You seem to think that the story was an American one transposed to England for the TV show. Well you're wrong on that count aren't you! Try reading the books! (though they're not set in America so you probably wouldn't like them).
And to the person who commented that Cathrine Zeta Jones stole the show - Oh please! The real stars of this show are David Jason & Pam Ferris, who are vastly better and more experienced actors than the wooden Zeta Jones. Undoubtedly beautiful but her acting in this is less than great. Just because David Jason & Pam Ferris are virtual unknowns in America doesn't mean that they are not stars in their own right. Thy are far more worthy of praise and plaudits concerning acting than she is despite her Oscar. If it were not for her pretty face I can guarantee that American TV & movies wouldn't have even bothered with her, so shallow is that particular world. Still, she can now be famous for something else now. Being the wife of Michael Douglas.
P.S. I have nothing against Americans, just those who can't enjoy something just because it isn't set in America or isn't American. The American film version of this show was dire in comparison to the later TV show (the one in question), which perfectly captures the author's original intentions contained within the novels, though Anonymous 007 doesn't seem to have read the books or even know that it is an English story. Much less does he/she understand the culture from which the stories originate.
