"Call Girl" rang down the curtain on Paul Lieber's three episode run as Det. Sgt. Eric Dorsey (last of four overall), the only instance since Yemana's passing where a new character was introduced. The squad room is invaded by expensive call girls, which drives the newly celibate Dietrich crazy ("think I'll suck on my tie now!"). Ray Athens (Paul Kent) is arrested for creating a disturbance after Christine Scott (Nancy Bleier) rebuffed his amorous intentions (Harris: "made some subtle inquiry in regard to having his brakes realigned!" Athens: "I'm in auto supply, we say things like that!"). Miss Scott has a little black book containing names of some of New York's most prominent politicians, many of whom are anxiously offering Barney extravagant gifts to keep their names away from the press; according to Harris, "a couple from City Hall, a Senator's aide, and the UN...I think you may be addressing the general assembly!" Checking the book on one unnamed client, Harris puts in another pithy comment: "him? well I guess that's one way to negotiate a lasting piece!" A second hooker, Lenore DuBois (Sarina Grant), claims she was just minding her own business (Harris" "that's why you're here!"). Dorsey brings in a third, Rhonda Haleck (Tasha Zemrus), who shockingly turns out to be underage, the daughter of a mugger ("you got something against junior achievement?"). Like the delinquents on the spin off FISH, she's a member of a group home, this one run by Malcolm Gower (Arthur Malet, second of two), which has a stunning history of minors being arrested for soliciting. She tries to come on to Dorsey (Rhonda: "you ever make it with a 16 year old?" Dorsey: "once, when I was 16!"). He discusses the matter with his captain (Barney: "strip away that outfit and loud mouth, you probably find a lovely, fragile, frightened little girl..." Dorsey: "sure...that's what guys your age are payin' for!" Barney: "I appreciate that!"). Since Dorsey never appears again, we might just assume he ran away with the girl!

Mediocre episode. The expensive call girl little black book full of powerful people story has been done so many times it just is not very interesting anymore. The under-age call girl from a group home with criminal father and no mother story has also been way over-used. The only good thing about this episode is that it is the last episode Dorsey appears in. The Dorsey character is really kind of repulsive; I cannot imagine why the writers ever thought he would be appealing or entertaining. First, I find it hard to believe that the NYPD would allow a detective to have a fright-wig mop of hair like his. It was not a well-manicured afro like Harris originally had; it looked like a globby mess. He had zero personality and what he did have was just unlikable. His off and on New York accent sounded completely fake and he talked like he had trouble remembering his lines. Not sure if it was bad writing or bad acting but I'm glad they realized the error of their ways and wrote him back out.
