An A for effort

I love me some low budget movies, B flicks or just plain awful representations of genres. This I did not love.

A group of friends go out to check on their female friend in a remote area. It turns out that she has come under the spell of a cult and is being used to bring forth death to the world. The evil leader of the cult summons zombies to dispatch her friends as they try to save her.

As one might expect from a movie with a budget of less than 100K, the acting and special effects are terrible. To hide how bad the make-up is, they even tried to obscure the "zombies" with green smoke(?) and blurred camera shots. The writing was not great, nor was the dialogue by the characters. No one had any conviction to them while delivering their performances. Even the nudity seems overly gratuitous in spots.

All that being said, it was not a total train wreck.

Shot-on-video zombie horror is better than expected

DEMON RESURRECTION is a shot-on-video horror flick that's a little better than expected. It takes a while to get going but once it does so it provides a little charm here and there as well as riffs on well-worn themes. The worst thing about it is the writing, with the characters all acting like dorks and not much intelligence from beginning to end.

Things open with a slow first half, complete with an extended sex scene and ample nudity, so much so that you could mistake this for a porno. After a black magic ritual takes place there's a great deal of talk, but things pick up with the arrival of some great-looking zombies who could have stepped out of an Italian horror film. What follows is a kind of action siege scenario, albeit done on a very low budget. It's not brilliant, but for this type of indie film it's quite well considered and enjoyable.

Fun horror flick

A devil worshiper wants to use a woman as the mother for a devil offspring, but she escapes and seeks help from a group of friends in a old mansion. The Satanist resurrects a horde of mummified corpses and orders them to attack the woman and her friends.

The film was made on a low budget and it shows in some of the acting and effects. The pacing could've been better, but once the zombies show up it gets fairly entertaining. There is a lot of creepy atmosphere in the horror scenes and it feels very inspired by horror films from the 70s and 80s. The rubber masks used for the zombies are very reminiscent of films like Creepshow and Burial Ground for instance. Good choice of location as well.

Overall, for something made by people with little experience and money this was a well done film.

If I have the cash this is the movie I can afford to make

The minute I watched it, I knew it was going to be incomparable to the high budget films. And will be composed of unknown movie stars, and maybe yearlings in acting. Sp the benefit of the doubt, I watched it in it's entirety. If this movie had the budget of "Walking Dead" or Conjuring, this would make a great movie. Many aspects of the high budget movies is because of special effects. Although the effects of this movie is not high tech, they did a very good job. The script and acting is not bad either. It teaches me to appreciate the performing arts even more, and shows me that part of the world is highly competitive.
