Halloween looms ever closer, my fiends. Can you taste it? Smell it? Hear it?
Find quiet. Settle your thoughts. Be still.
Alone. Look out your window into the night.
It’s there. Just out of sight. It’s waiting for you to leave your car, or your home, or your job. It waits in the places between.
Halloween wants you.
Wants to be you.
You think you wear it, like a mask, but the truth? It’s you that’s being worn.
It draws near…

Me and writer Scott Snyder have a history. In 2011 I was introduced to his work via Severed, his debut at Image Comics. Up until that point, he’d been known mostly for working with DC/Vertigo, as a Batman writer or on a Stephen King-headed series, American Vampire, neither of which interested me.

The creepiest rabbit we have seen this side of Frank from Donnie Darko; this 200 foot long, 20 foot high, handmade, stuffed bunny sits in the Italian Alps. Why? The artist collective known as Gelatin put “Hase” there for you to visit while it slowly decays. Here is the full explanation in their own words:
"The things one finds wandering in a landscape: familiar things and utterly unknown, like a flower one has never seen before, or, as Columbus discovered, an inexplicable continent; and then, behind a hill, as if knitted by giant grandmothers, lies this vast rabbit, to make you feel as small as a daisy. The toilet-paper-pink creature lies on its back: a rabbit-mountain like Gulliver in Lilliput. Happy you feel as you climb up along its ears, almost falling into its cavernous mouth, to the belly-summit and look out over the pink woolen landscape of the rabbitÌs body, a...

We caught up recently with I Spit on Your Grave reboot series director Steven R. Monroe to garner his thoughts on the polarized critical response to the CineTel Films/Anchor Bay Entertainment release of his feature I Spit On Your Grave 2, as well as on the future of the franchise, and more. Monroe, whose extensive directorial credits include the genre features House of 9 (2005), It Waits (2005), and the upcoming Cerina Vincent-vehicle MoniKa, as well as the 2010 Sarah Butler-starring remake of Meir Zarchi’s controversial 1978 rape/revenge feature I Spit On Your Grave, proved refreshing in his honesty in regards to what drew him to directing the sequel, as well as his understanding of the polarized response to it, and his exasperation with a faction of the blogosphere, among other things. Having premiered at London’s FILM4 FrightFest this past August with a subsequent release to Blu-ray, DVD...

Shatrughan Sinha is getting ready to return home after a month of hospitalization. The ground floor of the newly-renovated Sinha residence would contain all the equipment for Shatrughan Sinha's exercises. Says a source, "Sonakshi will personally look into her father's new physical regimen while his diet would be completely supervised and controlled by Mrs. Punam Sinha. And when Shatruji returns home, the inflow of guests would be gently controlled so that a strain is not imposed on the healing process," says a family friend. But Shatruji is not going home right away. Though fully recovered and raring to get back to a normal routine Shatrughan Sinha would be confined in his cushy suite on Tina Ambani's hospital until the Sinhas' newly-rebuilt residence, is considered a safe zone for the newly recuperated star. Shatruji's ailment began when he developed a ferocious allergy against the paint used in the newly-renovated residence.

Author: Adam Nevill.
Adam Nevill's third novel is titled The Ritual. This book was released by Pan Mcmillan in May of 2011 and the book reviewed here is an uncorrected book proof. Few errors inhabit this novel, but something else does. There is a mythical pagan beast with horns lurking about that haunts an isolated Swedish forest. It waits for the unwary to happen by. Hutch, Phil, Dom and Luke are the unwary and all four of them are taking a break from their weary work and family lives. These problems are the least of their worries when the beast looks to sacrifice them to unseen gods. The ending of The Ritual is bloody and arguably a tragic one as the protagonist must return to a dreary sterile world of predictability from one of true terror. Certain themes within Nevill's novel hint at this slightly unsettling conclusion.

American World Pictures and Bron Studios have released the first images from Steven R. Monroe’s “Jabberwocky”, which just completed production and is now headed into post. Monroe is coming off the remake of “I Spit on Your Grave”, and previously directed the films “It Waits” and “House of 9″, both of which I found very decent. “Jabberwocky” looks like a swords-and-monsters fantasy movie, and co-stars Tahmoh Penikett (of “Battlestar Galactica” fame) and Kacey Barnfield (recently in “Resident Evil: Afterlife”). Jabberwocky chronicles the story of a young squire (Michael Worth) who, alongside his brother (Tahmoh Penikett), must become a warrior to save his people and the woman he loves (Kacey Barnfield) after a horrific beast is unleashed on the Kingdom. Starring Tahmoh Penikett, Michael Worth, Kacey Barnfield, Raffaello Degruttola, Steven Waddington, Richard Riddell, Ian Virgo, and directed by Steven R. Monroe. Look for it later this year. A few years back, when a horror remake was announced nearly every week, I figured if "they" (those Hollywood suits calling the shots) felt The Last House on the Left could get a modern facelift, then it was only a matter of time before it was deemed okay to retell the tough-as-nails, merciless and infamous Meir Zarchi film I Spit On Your Grave (aka Day of the Woman ). Sure enough, it happened. Quietly, however, in Louisiana under the direction of Steven R. Monroe who's resume is riddled with creature features like Wyvern and It Waits . Prior to those efforts, he helmed House of 9 and The Contract . Sordid, explicit and violent subject matter has long generated big bucks at the box office (while tame in the eyes of modern audiences, Tod Browning’s Dracula is a prime example, having saved Universal Studios from impending bankruptcy upon its release in 1931). As the years have passed, studios have continued to siphon from the horror well, filling their coffers with revenue generated by an ever-evolving cadre of increasingly brutal horror titles from Hitchcock’s Psycho to Paramount Pictures’ Friday the 13th series and beyond. 1970’s independent filmmakers, too, realized the financial possibilities and stretched the boundaries of horror cinema with such shocking productions as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Last House on the Left and The Babysitter Murders (aka Halloween).
In recent years all of these horror titles have been remade and released theatrically with varying degrees of success. Platinum Dunes lucratively re-explored Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw...

There are lots of goodies hitting DVD and Blu-ray this week with the standouts being the long-awaited Tell Tale, post-apocalyptic father and son saga The Road, and pick of the week True Blood: The Complete Second Season.
But those are just the high profile releases. There's also the suspenseful, funny, gory Babysitter Wanted, UK thriller Dark Nature, atmospheric supernatural tale Finale, demonic The Landlord, and Someone's Knocking at the Door, which bills itself as a tribute to old fashioned horror films.
Bowing on Blu-ray are City of the Living Dead (available as a special edition DVD as well), 1981's Clash of the Titans, Class of Nuke 'Em High, It Waits, and The Shortcut. Rounding things out is a collector's tin of Machine Girl.
Add in a few more offerings we'll let you guys discover for yourselves, and May 25th offers a pretty damn good haul all in all!

Anchor Bay Films has picked up U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K. and New Zealand rights to the remake of the 1978 cult classic “I Spit On Your Grave”. The remake is coming to you courtesy of director Steven R. Monroe, who has done a couple of nice B-horror movies in the past, including “It Waits” with Cerina Vincent and “House of 9″ with Dennis Hopper. The “Grave” remake will star Sarah Butler (left) as a city girl who travels to a cabin to write a novel, only to find herself the victim of assault and rape at the hands of some greasy locals. She lives, and returns to exact brutal revenge against her assailants. Much fun is had by all. Well, except for the guys she’s killing, that is. Meanwhile, the lovely and vivacious Carla Gugino (“Sin City”) has joined the cast of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s revenge actioner “Faster”. The film,...

The Sci Fi Channel has slated Toby Wilkins’ Splinter (pictured) for a broadcast premiere on Saturday, February 14 at 9 p.m. There will be a repeat showing the following night at 7 p.m.
The superior indie monster flick (see our review here) was briefly released theatrically last fall under the Magnet banner by Magnolia Pictures, which initially announced a DVDebut for this month; it’ll now hit disc later this spring. Splinter is just one of several creature features hitting Sci Fi in the next couple of months; also on tap is Anaconda 4: Trail Of Blood, showing on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. The fourth in the killer-snake franchise was shot back to back with last year’s Anacondas III, with director Don E. FauntLeroy and stars Crystal Allen and John Rhys-Davies returning (but not, sadly, David Hasselhoff). Another sequel (sort of), Planet Raptor a.k.a.
