It’s been a long, long time coming but singer Linda Ronstadt will be getting the biopic treatment, with Selena Gomez tapped to star and David O. Russell attached to direct.
Speculation on a Selena Gomez-starring Linda Ronstadt biopic began last week when the actress/singer posted on Instagram. Now that it has been confirmed, music fans should be excited for the project, which could be a nice companion piece to the 2019 documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice. That movie won the Best Music Film Grammy, adding to Ronstadt’s ever-growing diverse list of them, including Best Contemporary Vocal Performance, Best Tropical Latin Album and Best Music Album for Children, not to mention a Lifetime Achievement Award.
There is plenty of explore in the life and music of Linda Ronstadt, who released her first solo album, “Hand Sown…Home Grown”, in 1969 and hit #1 with 1974’s “Heart Like a Wheel...

Don Everly, half of one of rock’s earliest and most influential harmony groups, the Everly Brothers, died Saturday in his Nashville home at the age of 84. A rep for the singer confirmed his death to the Los Angeles Times. A cause of death was not immediately known.
“Don lived by what he felt in his heart,” Everly’s family said in a statement to the Times. “Don expressed his appreciation for the ability to live his dreams … with his soulmate and wife, Adela, and sharing the music that made him an Everly Brother.

Five years before she was inducted as a solo artist, Stevie Nicks took the stage at the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to honor Linda Ronstadt. She was joined by Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood, and Glenn Frey — who delivered her induction speech minutes earlier.

A whopping eight artists were sent home during Tuesday’s results show bloodbath on “The Voice,” but it’s the elimination of Worth the Wait that has fans most upset. This trio of family singers from Team Blake Shelton gave it their all each and every week, even going viral with their blind audition of Linda Ronstadt‘s “When Will I Be Loved” (watch above). Unfortunately, they couldn’t beat Bailey Rae in the instant save and were sent home along with Tanner Gomes and Payge Turner. The night’s other eliminated contestants were Madeline Consoer, Joseph Soul, Sid Kingsley, Taryn Papa and Chloé Hogan.

There are a lot of things in life that simply aren’t worth the wait, but that can’t be said for the mother daughter trio, Worth The Wait, that left judges stunned during their blind audition. When the group, which consists of Tara (mom), Mia, and Jacy Matthews, stepped on stage to perform “When Will I Be Loved” nobody knew what to expect. While the viewers are home could see there were three people on stage, the judges had no idea. This season on “The Voice,” the four coaches seem to be more picky and competitive than ever before. Indeed, at the conclusion of the five blind auditions episodes there were only four artists that received coveted four-chair turns. Tamara Jade and Cami Clune chose Team Legend, Desz picked Team Kelly, and trio Worth the Wait went with Team Blake.
Throughout Season 19 we’ll be tracking what happened to all of the 4-chair turn artists, so scroll down for a closer look at their journeys. Will any of these contestants end up joining “The Voice” winners list?

That, folks, is that. Monday’s episode of The Voice brought to a close Season 19’s Blind Auditions, adding to the coaches’ rosters the worst nightmare of Team Blake’s Sam Stacy, a coupla middling country singers and the only act in the competition that can do its own harmonies (as the photo above suggests). It also introduced to the contest a Johnny-come-lately who was so good, I thought cowabunga, he could actually win. Ok, now I sound like the coaches, who seem to say that to every third contestant. As we lurch ever closer to the uncertainty of whether The Voice will be able to stage any kind of live episodes in Season 18, the pretaped Knockouts kicked off Monday. And did they ever pack a punch! At least one sing-off — Team Kelly’s CammWess and Megan Danielle’s — was so impressive, it made me rethink my stance on how easy the coach’s decisions are. It also led to the strangest tangent ever about what it’s like when Blake Shelton blows out his Spanx. (It resembles a half-open can of biscuits, it turns out.) How was the rest of the night?...

Producers of “The Voice” have a radical new idea for the Knockout round of Season 18, which begins Monday night. The four saved artist from the previous Battle episodes will compete for one slot in the live shows, which will premiere at an unknown future date due to health concerns. That will give the audience a Top 17 since each coach will carry forward four artists from these two Knockout shows that were already pre-recorded months ago.

Mike Pompeo has had a busy first few days of 2020. In the wake of last week’s Trump-ordered drone strike that killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, the secretary of state has been a fixture on cable news, regurgitating Iraq-invasion talking points and making specious claims about how the attack was justified because Soleimani posed an “imminent” threat to U.S. national security. He repeated them while speaking to reporters on Friday, declining to provide details. “This was going to happen,” was the most he could manage.

Washington, D.C. — Political chatter was kept to a minimum Sunday night as the Kennedy Center Honors presented elaborate tributes to “Sesame Street” — made more poignant by the death of legendary puppeteer Caroll Spinney earlier in the day — as well as Sally Field, Linda Ronstadt, Earth, Wind and Fire and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas.

Sally Field, Linda Ronstadt, Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Tilson Thomas and Sesame Street were honored Sunday night at the Kennedy Center Honors, but what was all the more apparent was the tone of the show: A holiday season respite at one of D.C.’s most polarized moments. As the impeachment of President Donald Trump moves forward, among those attending were some of its most visible figures, like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose decision to open an inquiry led to this moment, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is among the administration figures defying congressional subpoenas. Also present: Chief Justice John Roberts, who would preside over a Senate trial.

There’s a lot of talk these days about empowerment in the music industry. “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice,” directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman (“The Celluloid Closet”), is a no-frills documentary that tells the enthralling story of one of the most powerful women in the history of pop music, and the movie is a testament to how different empowerment once looked, yet how potent it still was. When you watch Beyoncé’s “Homecoming,” there’s hardly an atomic particle onscreen that doesn’t vibrate with power. Every costume stitch, every twist and strut of the marching-band members, every triumphant booty shake, every now-hear-this lyric — it’s all about an exultant freedom that’s not being asked for, or even demanded. It has been achieved.
Contrast that with the song that put the 21-year-old Linda Ronstadt on the map. The year was 1967, she was a member of the L.

Thirty-nine years ago next month, Linda Ronstadt released Mad Love, her tenth LP as a solo artist. Ronstadt had previously topped both the pop and country singles charts respectively with high-spirited takes on “You’re No Good” and “When Will I Be Loved,” but Mad Love put the singer in new-wave rock & roll territory. While it’s actually one of her most adventurously vibrant efforts – not to mention Grammy-nominated and her seventh straight million-seller – reviews of the album were decidedly mixed.

Washington (AP) — U2's classic album "The Joshua Tree," Linda Ronstadt's "Heart Like a Wheel" and an early, influential Christian rock album will play on forever, or at least as long as the Library of Congress is around. These albums from the 1970s and 1980s are among 25 recordings selected for long-term preservation in the library's National Recording Registry, chosen for their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance. Among the seminal sounds of the 20th century announced Wednesday are Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" and the Everly Brothers' "Cathy's Clown." Librarian of Congress James Billington said the recordings represent part of America's culture and history. "As technology continually changes and formats become obsolete, we must ensure that our nation's aural legacy is protected," he said. U2's 1987 album with hits like "Where the Streets Have no Name" and "With or Without You" was chosen after the library received many public nominations.

Blake Shelton used up his last steal to snag Tess Boyer from Team Usher, and Madilyn Paige and Tanner James performed a sweet duet in the third part of the battle rounds of The Voice.

Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band and Toby Keith are among the artists who will be traveling to China Grove on a Long Train Runnin’ for a cover album of Doobie Brothers songs. Just like Hollywood loves sequels, country artists love to pay homage to pop artists, whether it be this new edition or the very popular salute to Lionel Richie a few years ago, or “Common Thread: Song of the Eagles” project 20 years ago. And don’t forget, there’s even a country cover album to the songs of Motley Crue coming. Here’s one very big reason they are so popular: Much of the country audience today was raised on these songs when pop radio was very melody driven. When pop radio switched to a more urban and beats sound, many of these listeners flocked to country, which had developed its own country pop hybrid with acts like Rascal Flatts,...

Phil had three homes: one close to family in Burbank, one near his roots in Nashville, and a summer beach house in Alabama, says his son, Jason Everly, 47. Phil was "the best harmony singer that's ever lived," Jason says, and part of a duo, with brother Don, that laid the foundation of rock music. Jason says his dad loved sharing stories...

Half of the brilliant duo that transformed 1950s pop music
With his older brother Don, Phil Everly, who has died of pulmonary disease aged 74, formed one of pop music's greatest vocal partnerships. If it was Elvis Presley who became the most spectacular icon of 1950s rock'n'roll, the Everly Brothers created a musical legacy which was every bit as influential. Their unique vocal harmonies, coupled with ingenious guitar arrangements and timeless material, had a revolutionary impact on the Beatles, the Hollies, Simon & Garfunkel, the Beach Boys, the Byrds and Crosby Stills & Nash.
The Everly Brothers' breakthrough hit was Bye Bye Love (1957), still regarded as one of their most impressive creations. Up to that point, Don and Phil had been chipping away at the country music scene in Nashville, Tennessee, with limited success. Bye Bye Love topped the country charts, but more significantly soared to No 2 on the pop charts, just...

Phil Everly, the younger half of the Everly Brothers, died in Burbank, California on Friday. His wife, Patti, told the Los Angeles Times that the cause was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. During the late '50s and early '60s, Phil and his older brother, Don, produced dozens of hits, including "Wake Up Little Susie," "Bye Bye Love," "Cathy’s Clown," "All I Have to Do Is Dream" and "When Will I Be Loved?," most of which you have probably heard, even if you don't realize it. Their harmonies were cited as influences by the Beatles, Linda Ronstadt, Simon and Garfunkel, and, later Green Day and Bonnie "Prince" Billie, among many, many others. The duo broke up onstage in 1973 and reunited ten years later, making two more albums before becoming mostly estranged again. It sounds like the makings of a bad joke. A renowned filmmaker (James Toback) and a famous actor (Alec Baldwin) walk into a film festival with an idea under their arm… In reality, it’s a film (though, it’s by all rights a documentary, just don’t tell this to the director). The HBO movie “Seduced & Abandoned” features James Toback—writer of “The Gambler” and “Bugsy” director of “Fingers,” “Two Girls & A Guy” and the doc “Tyson”—and Alec Baldwin, and follows them to the Cannes Film Festival (Baldwin’s first time ever) with the idea of pitching and selling their latest film ideas to financiers at the fest. The project they're selling is called “Last Tango In Tikrit,” a would-be erotic thriller set in the heart of the Iraq War with two politically-opposed journalists in the heat of it all (Neve Campbell, who starred in Toback’s 2004 film...

Director: James Toback; Screenwriter: James Toback; Starring: Alec Baldwin, James Toback, Ryan Gosling, Jessica Chastain, Neve Campbell; Running time: 98 mins; Certificate: 15
According to Alec Baldwin, the movie business is like "the worst girlfriend in the world, you keep going back only to get seduced and abandoned over and over again". It may be tough to imagine a Hollywood sex symbol being treated that way, but this documentary on the business of bankrolling movies is full of self-effacing humour and stark observations, including the notion that Baldwin is considered a mere television actor - not quite big enough to put bums on theatre seats.
His job on this film is as producer, teaming with writer/director James Toback (The Pick-Up Artist) on a cap-in-hand mission to the Cannes Film Festival, schmoozing at premieres and dining on yachts, garrulously pitching an updated version of Last Tango in Paris - set in Iraq.

Oscar-nominated screenwriter James Toback has signed on to rewrite John Travolta's new Gotti family biopic with director Barry Levinson. The filmmaker and the writer teamed up on "Bugsy" in 1991; Toback is also the acclaimed director of "When Will I Be Loved" and documentary "Tyson".
"Gotti: Three Generations" producer Marc Fiore tells WENN, "Everyone involved with the film is very excited to have James Toback on-board. His work with Barry Levinson on Bugsy resulted in a highly acclaimed film that was widely recognized for its original screenplay."
Travolta will play mob boss John Gotti in the film, which will also feature Lindsay Lohan and Joe Pesci. The drama movie itself reveals the relationship of a father who lived and died by the mob code and a son who chose to leave that world behind and redeem himself.

"Girls Night Out: Superstar Women of Country" was a country music lovers dream come true Friday night (April 22) on CBS. So many big names were in the house and the performances were out of sight.
To cap off the already-wonderful concert, honorees Martina McBride, Naomi and Wynonna Judd, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Jennifer Nettles took to the stage to pay tribute to one of the first female country legends - Loretta Lynn.
Loretta couldn't be with them that night due to recent knee surgery, but she taped a video message and then the wonderful ladies joined in a group sing on Loretta's autobiographical 1969 hit "Coal Miner's Daughter." They could not have picked a better closing number.
Other highlights included Rascal Flatts and Reba jamming on "The Heart Won't Lie," Little Big Town and Martina McBride on "When Will I Be Loved," rock legend John Fogarty and Wynonna on "Proud Mary,...

Friday night (April 22) CBS broadcast the "Girls Night Out: Superstar Women of Country" that was taped April 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The tribute to the great women of country music had the joint jumpin'.
Kicking of the night was prolific country trio Rascal Flatts, first singing Reba's 1994 hit "Why Haven't I Heard from You," and then having Ms. McEntire herself join them onstage for "The Heart Won't Lie." It was a great way to start the tribute.
Other highlights included Little Big Town and Martina McBride on "When Will I Be Loved," rock legend John Fogarty and Wynonna on "Proud Mary," Miranda Lambert and two newcomers Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley on "Hell on Heels," Carrie Underwood and Vince Gil absolutely slaying "How Great Thou Art" and of course the big finale where all the women honored country legend Loretta Lynn with "Coal Miner's Daughter."

CBS broadcast "Girls Night Out: Superstar Women of Country" Friday night (April 22) and the rafters were a'-rockin' at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with the strains of many wonderful country tunes.
But the showstopper was from our girl Carrie Underwood and Vince Gil on "How Great Thou Art." It was emotional, uplifting and just gorgeous. Subject: Neve Campbell, 37-year old Canadian actress
Date of Assessment: April 13, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Scream queen, television
Negative Buzzwords: Limited range, ambivalent
The Case: Ah yes, I vaguely recall an actress named Neve Campbell, who was fortunate enough to strike upon a rather popular franchise and make some quick cash before the world discovered that she possessed the a mere three facial expressions and, well, that was it. In short, Neve Campbell was the Kristen Stewart of the 1990s, albeit with far less lucrative paydays and a chronic head tilt instead of a lip-biting affectation. Now, after fifteen years in Hollywood, Campbell doesn't have a hell of a lot to show for her time in the so-called spotlight. Interestingly, she herself has declared that "I never wanted to be an actor," and I can't help but think that this is one hell of an obvious statement in retrospect, for Campbell has...

It’s jaw-dropping that the Resident Evil film franchise continues to perform better than those based on games with massive worldwide fanbases (King of Fighters, Tekken, FarCry—all of which were released straight-to-dvd). Yet since Milla Jovovich's first bout with virally infected zombies in 2002, the Resident Evil flicks have routinely opened the weekend within the top two positions and made between $17-20 million.
