How it all began

This is a special feature found on the 2-Disc DVD of X2, released in 2003... but... and this is where it gets confusing... it doesn't mention the second movie, and never clearly defines itself as being about neither the first film nor the comics, but really takes some of both. I would say that it is intended as something to tell you the history of the books, and the most memorable moments of this is definitely where it points out where they developed the medium. This is made up entirely of interview bits and quite a lot of drawings, panels and covers added in, thankfully more subtly and effectively used than the relatively few clips(the cutting in of which seems unimpressive at best). They detail the efforts to adapt it in a satisfactory way and provide a pretty reasonable amount of insight into the characters, with some really great things said. There are an anecdote or two, perhaps the best being the one involving a very long car ride. Overall, the ratio of who talks seems to favor the comic people, which is exactly as it should be. Lee is just awesome to listen to. It's got decent pacing and editing. All in all, this isn't bad, but it could be stronger, and it would have helped if it had found its voice. I recommend this to any fan of the franchise, especially in its original form. 6/10
