sci-fi erotic tale
anneliendeflo6 September 2004
I saw this short recently on television in the Canvas section 'Film Kort'. I think it's a brilliant exercise in tension and mood. I think this film is strangely erotic despite its ice-cold façade. There's such a great unspoken tension between the Man and the Woman in this silent short that takes place in an elevator in a future-like world. This film asks more questions than it gives answers and really after the film is over (it's about only 6 minutes long) you're completely hooked. It's almost like a fantastic prologue for a feature film. You really want to find out more about the mysterious building and its occupants (the Man is played by the dead funny Pieter Embrechts but here he works very well as a character that doesn't do anything but evokes a lot of mystery and in a way, is very sexy). I hope the makers of this film work out some sort of sequel but hopefully full-length this time. It's really about time for Belgian filmmakers to start thinking like these guys and make more ambiguous and ambitious films. Great promise for the future!
