Over the course of its 21-year television run, CBS’ police procedural show NCIS has been constantly reshaping its story by adding and removing characters, something that would make the plot go in a completely different direction.
Such changes mostly did affect the storyline, but only one character from the first ever seasons gave the whole show a radically switched perspective that later on helped introduce another significant cast member.
Kate’s Death Was a True Game Changer for NCIS
Caitlin "Kate" Todd, a special agent portrayed by Sasha Alexander in seasons 1 and 2, had some special impact on her colleagues that the latter ones didn’t really become aware of until Kate was gone.
Shot in the head by a sniper after she and other agents successfully went through a warehouse that presumably served as a terrorist cell’s hide-out, Kate left the show, but still redefined it all and made...

First off, the bad news — if you’re NCIS‘ Kasie Hines, that is. The “feng shui” makeover that the team’s forensic scientist excitedly gave her lab in the most recent episode of the CBS drama is not a keeper, as you (and a sun-blinded Parker) may have suspected.
“The sun glare gets her,” NCIS cast member Diona Reasonover confirmed for TVLine’s Keisha Hatchett at CBS’ Thursday-night fall schedule reveal party, as seen in the video above. “It is not permanent,” she added with a sigh.

The NCIS Season 21 finale arrives on May 6, and it’s slated to be a big one.
As Monsters and Critics previously reported, we are heading toward a cliffhanger for one of the primary characters.
But some new statements from one of the NCIS stars teased that the acronym for the show (NCIS) stands for “no character is safe.”
“They shouldn’t just be worried about Gary Cole, they should worry about a lot of characters. No character is safe, that’s what NCIS stands for, I think,” actor Brian Dietzen said on the red carpet for CBS’ Fall Schedule Celebration in Hollywood.
“I’ll tell you this, Gary Cole and Katrina Law knock it out of the park in this episode. There are a lot of things that are going to be happening, not just the danger that our characters are put through, but also dynamics that are going to be shifting,...

The Big Brother 26 season appears destined for a shorter run than Big Brother 25.
With two Hollywood strikes happening, the BB25 cast played the game longer than any previous houseguests.
Jag Bains beat Matt Klotz on Day 100 of Big Brother 26, making it the longest season in history.
Since many scripted dramas and comedies at CBS — NCIS, FBI, Fire Country, etc. — were delayed in production, it left timeslots open for shows like Big Brother.
Now that the strikes have ended, CBS can return to its regular fall programming, and that’s exactly what they announced this week.
Shows like NCIS: Origins were added to the CBS primetime schedule, and many hit shows are returning for new episodes in September of 2024.
Big Brother 26 is likely a shorter season
As some fans may remember, the BB25 finale happened in November. The season ran from August 2 to November 9.

“We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give the show the sendoff it deserves.”
Despite reporters pointing out that the cast had been trying to get the show renewed for Blue Bloods Season 15, Reisenbach shut down any speculation of keeping the show alive.

The doctors were in at the top of Nielsen’s streaming ratings for the beginning of April.
Medical dramas The Resident and Grey’s Anatomy were the top two titles for the week of April 1-7, finishing with 1.18 billion and 1.15 billion minutes of viewing time (both stream on Hulu and Netflix). The Resident actually slipped a little from the previous week‘s 1.48 billion minutes, which was good for second overall, but the show that had been ahead of it — Netflix’s 3 Body Problem — fell further. The sci-fi series dropped by about 47 percent to a still solid 937 million minutes of viewing.
Disney’s animated movie Wish had its streaming premiere on April 3 and racked up 1.02 billion minutes of watch time over its first five days on Disney+. It’s the first film on Disney+ to crack the billion-minute mark since Elemental did so in September 2023. Bluey (1.08 billion minutes) also crossed the...

The children’s animated film “Wish” debuted with just over 1 billion minutes watched in its first five days of streaming on Disney+, per Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings for the April 1-7 interval. Having debuted on April 3, that makes the movie the fourth-most-streamed title of the week.
The No. 1 title of the week was “The Resident,” up from No. 2 the week before when an update to Nielsen’s measurement capabilities drove the series’ chart debut. Across both Hulu and Netflix, the medical drama was watched for nearly 1.2 billion minutes from April 1 to April 7.
“Grey’s Anatomy” was the second-most-streamed title of the week with just over 1.1 billion minutes watched across both Netflix and Hulu. This was a strong viewership bump for the series, which makes the chart almost every week but typically in a lower position. “Bluey” is a constant in the top half of the chart, and made No. 3 during...

CBS is finally offering fans of its now-canceled shows some answers about its decision to put an end to their favorite series. Specifically, network bosses George Cheeks and Amy Reisenbach revealed to the press (via Deadline) why it decided not to renew NCIS: Hawai’i. “We had some tough choices this year,” Reisenbach said, citing an “embarrassment of riches” when it came to original programming. However, the execs noted that they made these cuts “to keep the schedule fresh and keep the momentum going.” The execs also confirmed that there is no chance of resurrection for NCIS: Hawai’i (nor fellow canceled shows So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas) at CBS or Paramount+. NCIS: Hawai’i‘s cancellation led to an outcry of disappointment from Hawai’i lead Vanessa Lachey and NCIS star Rocky Carroll. Lachey, for example, openly mourned the decision on social media by writing, “Gutted, confused, blindsided. Grateful, confident,...

Fans were shocked to hear that “NCIS: Hawai’i,” the newest series in CBS’ “NCIS” franchise, had been canceled after three seasons last week. At a press briefing in Los Angeles, CBS executives said the decision came down to a balance of cost and ratings, as well as cohesion across the network’s 2024-2025 schedule.
“It is incumbent on us to always keep the schedule fresh, keep momentum going. We had to make some really tough choices this year,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach told reporters. “Everything came back [from the Hollywood strikes] really strong, but ultimately we have to look at the cohesiveness of the schedule flow. We have to evaluate the financials and the performance overall, and we make tough decisions.”
When asked whether there was a chance of un-cancellation, as happened when CBS reversed its decision to end “S.W.A.T.” on two separate occasions, Reisenbach said no.

CBS is taking a page out of Netflix’s playbook by announcing its programming success in the billions of minutes watched.
If you were wondering what that might mean to a broadcast network, it measures out to 456 billion minutes of CBS programming watched in the first four months of 2024.
With two new hits on its hands — Tracker and Elsbeth — this doesn’t surprise us in the least.
Here’s the real measure of their success, though.
Viewers delivered over 30% more time spent in front of CBS programming than Netflix and over 231% more than all other streamers combined.
No wonder they’re patting themselves on the back.
Those are incredible numbers that often go unnoticed when you use traditional ratings tools to deliver the news.
Even crazier, the time spent watching CBS programming has increased by 5.8% over the same period in 2023.
People often wonder how shows can be considered a success...

“Forever your Sweet Jane… This was the same spot where I filmed episode 1,” Lachey wrote on Instagram along a video overlooking the ocean taken by her husband Nick Lachey. “I sat here at 2am on June 2021 and stared into the ocean. I asked her to protect me, my family, my crew and our show. I told her we will do all we can to protect the grace and integrity of Hawai’i while also sharing her Beauty with the world. As I sat here today, knowing our show is over, I turned to her again… what do we do now….(please...

A certain actor has been taking over Hollywood as of late, and his name is Glen Powell.
The actor, hailing from Austin, Texas, has a long list of credits to his name, with various appearances on television series over the years. But, he reached movie star status after starring in two of the biggest films of the last two years.
Both Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone but You were bonafide commercial hits, but they are far from the only series and movies of Mr. Powell's you'll want to add to your must-watch list.
Powell's acting career started with a small role in Spy Kids 3-D Game, and a few years later, he went on to star in The Great Debaters alongside Hollywood heavy hitters Forest Whitaker and Denzel Washington, who also directed it.
More roles would follow that, including guest stints on CSI: Miami, Rizzoli & Isles, and NCIS.

The NCIS franchise continues to expand—but not every show can last nearly as long as the mothership. Hawai’i, currently in its third season, will be ending with the May 6 episode. “I was shocked” by the news of its cancellation, NCIS star Rocky Carroll tells TV Insider. “Less than two weeks ago, I was doing a talk show with Vanessa Lachey and LL Cool J. We were all sitting around celebrating being a part of the NCIS universe. You never know what the motivating factors are, but I’m hoping that those characters, because we still have the mothership as we call it, we still have NCIS: Sydney, and who knows, those characters may turn up. I mean, LL Cool J’s character came from Los Angeles and was in Hawai’i. So who’s to say that Vanessa Lachey’s character wouldn’t show up somewhere in the NCIS universe again?...

There are decades of dramas to be accounted for, but we're going to focus on some of the more recent dramas on CBS.
However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't watch CBS classics like Murder, She Wrote, Gunsmoke, Dallas, The Twlight Zone, and more.
When you're not catching up on older CBS classics, here's what we recommend watching for a more modern setting.
