a work of genius
sethrgrossman6 March 2004
Human civilization may be judged, in the end, by the contribution of its artists to the greater social discourse, and if this is the case for short film, then Sophie Goodhart makes a good case for the continuation and, dare I suggest it, procreation of the species.

My Blind Brother is a unique achievement in the short and uneventful history of cinema, as it touches each of the available human emotions and stimulates them to a feverish climax. Afterwards it tosses them an old towel and asks them to clean themselves up in the bathroom. For days after seeing this film I felt empty inside, but I've grown as a cineaste, and as a man, and have come to appreciate it. Sophie Goodhart is an artist of incomparable virtue, and I look forward to her imminent assumption -- with her first feature film -- of the mantel of genius.

A great premise a good short but a disappointing ending

I saw this film in my film class in NYU and it was very interesting. I enjoyed the fact that the blind brother acted like a prick to his brother and got all the attention. Sophie in a q&a after the film screened stated she originally had it my blind sister but decided to make them guys coming to the conclusion that having it girls would have a different effect on the audience. I'm not sure why she thought that. It was hitting a homerun until the ending which left me wanting. Such a great premise wasn't used for all it's comedic and dramatic possibilities. Some of the film may be offensive towards blind people depends who you are. Some people were offended though in my class.

a great short film

Warning: Spoilers
My Blind Brother is a great short that touches a lot of the human emotions. It's very easy to get into, and you wont be bored with it. You will feel with the main character every single emotion he feels because we are the main character. Almost every one has felt jealous of somebody for getting more attention just like the main character. The story is about two brothers, one blind, and one not. The blind one is going to swim across a sound to show that blind people can do what ever they want or is it to get attention. This feat can't be done without the help of his jealous brother. This movie is a lot like "Knife in the Water" because most of the action is on the water and limited to three characters, or two characters in this movie(unless you want to dig deeper). Everything is great except the ending music. The director could have found some thing better than what she picked.

Great movie. Find it on ifc every now and then. 9/10
