What Dark Comedy?
nammage2 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I have no clue what this film is about. Yeah, I read the synopsis but I still have no clue what this film is about. And, apparently it's a Dark Comedy. A Dark Comedy is defined as making light of a serious situation. What's the serious situation? A whole bunch of employees scheming against each other to win some pithy prize? That's not what Dark Comedy's are. Something like "Fargo", "Heathers", "Pulp Fiction" etc., those are Dark Comedies. Those are serious situations that have humorous devices applied to them. People talking smack to other people, or a "midget gangster" who's barely in the film, is not Dark Comedy. More raunchy comedy than anything. Making fun of people is not Dark Comedy.

I see no point in this movie. I don't know if the Director was drawing from his life, or what? Maybe he sold newspapers door to door and he went through a similar situation. That doesn't make it a Dark Comedy. There were a few things said throughout that were funny but nothing as a whole.

The worst thing in this is the sound. There is no drowning out of background sound. Maybe it wasn't in the budget. There was a huge jet that flew over at night in one scene, and one of the actors tried to talk over it. Nothing he said was coherent. You either wait for it to pass or you retake the scene. You don't attempt to speak over it. When songs are playing, again you can sometimes barely make out what anyone is saying. The only good actor/actress in this entire film was Yelba Osorio, and that's probably either because she's been in mainstream films or got tips from her former famous husband John Lequizamo or that she graduated from Columbia and went to Harvard. Either way, while others acted okay to bad, she's really the only one who seemed to be able to act except at the end after she killed her boss. That was bad acting but up to that point...

Then there's the fight scenes; the sound in that was awful, the fights looked really fake. The worst thing is the ending. Arguing about prize money after, I think, two people get killed. I think it was $2,000. That's nothing. After paying taxes on it it's only $1,300. If you're doing the job of selling newspapers I hope at the least you're making that much a month otherwise you need to find a better job.

Overall even watching it my mind wandered off thinking about something else. Took me three hours to watch the 90 minute movie. Kept having to go back not that I remembered where my mind drifted off from. All those people who gave this 10/10, my bet is almost or all had some part in the making of this film.
