Odd, intriguing, ultimately unsatisfying

Jeff Farnsworth is a short film directed by newcomer Paul Cotter about a young college graduate obsessed with becoming a club bouncer. It seems, the harder he tries the more he foils his chances. This film seemed to have little direction. At first I thought it was a comedy, but then the mood of the film changed, becoming darker. Then changed again. It is as if this film is aiming to stick its foot in the door of multiple genres in the span of its brief (and trudging-paced) few minutes. Cotter should have taken one angle and run with it, the premise has much promise, and the actors are very well cast (Joe Calarco as the lead is very good, reminds me of a young Dave Foley). But the direction is not there, and this film fails all the more for it. Somewhat reminiscent of Rushmore.
